I wonder if it's because I'm artistically inclined, but I find poker the most boring and lame thing, ever. Unless it's strip poker.

Meanwhile, some of the most boring chinese people I know, absolutely love poker.

I wonder if it takes a certain type of mind to enjoy it?

Poker is an analytical and competitive game. That's why I enjoy it.

To each his own but I find poker very relaxing and enjoyable. If I have some spare time I love going to play. I probably play 3-4 times a month and it's almost always a good time, I say almost because there are those nights where you're like this sucks but I find them few and far between. I also love watching good poker being played on TV. I'm not huge on online poker though, I prefer playing live for the social aspect.

tbh, if you are good at poker, it is good for the compettive mindset. Relaxing but stressful at times.

Can someone help a beginner out with odd calcs?

If you have Ac As, and the opponent has Kh 3h, how do you calc the odds with this flop:

2h 4h 5c.

I can't figure out how to do the odds in my head. TIA.

Your opponent has 13 outs...flush draw (9) with open ender (6 minus your 2 aces)

general rule of thumb is you multiply your outs by 4 on the flop and 2 on the turn, so in this case, your opponent has a slight edge of 52% favourite even though you're ahead

Thanks, I was confused as I did the above calc at the game, but then I thought to myself. My opponent could also catch runner runner Kings, should I not factor that into the calculation? Likewise, how do I factor in my potential to draw out.

Thanks.

The 52% includes the subset combinations for running K's as well as 3's. If a King does come on the turn, then like Jerche said, multiply by 2 . Therefore, his outs has increased from 13 to 15 because he can know catch an addition king for a win. And as such, the odds of your opponent winning by the river is now about 30 percent.

What do you mean by "how do I factor in my potential to draw out"?

I see what you mean. I wasn't sure if there was % changes I should factor into a call on that flop for the possibility of catching, for example, runner, runner Aces.

You were the one calling? You should be the one leading out (betting, raising)

Calling shows weakness, I usually just fold or call to float and bluff/steal/catch something on future streets.

I feel this hand was played poorly since you were the one calling on the flop AND your opponent gets to see the flop with K3 suited....what was the preflop action?

In the end, my money is going in with AA on the flop regardless especially in 1/2.

FYI, when you think you're ahead, you don't calculate your opponent's outs, you just try to maximize value or protect your hand.

Well, I'll tell you what happened and you can maybe give me some pointers.

I was in a tourney with 4 ppl left. I was in late position and raised 6 times the BB. K3 called, flop came and they raised all in which was equiv to what I had left chip wise. Prompting my quick call.

^I honestly think u did nothing wrong, 6 times the big blind near the end of the tourny is huge. For him to shove all in before he lets u get a chance to bet or bluff on the flop tells me he doesnt have a made hand yet or just 1 pair so hes just semi-bluffing. In the end u called with the best hand and the majority of the time u will win but sometimes ull end up losing.

Yeah, not much else you're going to do there. RiceIntegra pretty much covered the situation. He either went in on a draw or called your huge pre-flop raise with middle pair or something and was protecting or maybe was bullying with a big stack. Either way, you're calling.

can't say anything about this hand until we know the payout structure and effective big blinds. Also, what position was the K3? I dunno, a 6 BB betting line as the first bet is not something I see often in any situation.

static, download pokerstove, it is a good software to calculate odds

Also, i think you raised him 6x on the SB since called so loose... or the button

no way he is folding flush AND straight draw, money is going in.
