i'd definitely pay a buck assuming it is an actual improvement over the current mobile site

k2_alpha 05-18-2011 03:11 PM

I dont mind the 99 cents.
but the $25 for the android platform is ridiculous.

it would take iPhone users 25 years to pay the same amount as an iPhone user.

insomniac 05-18-2011 03:22 PM

How bout make the app free with ads and another paid version without ads? Paid version has thank/fail, the option of uploading pictures etc. The free version without all these features. Id gladly pay $1 for the app. $1 is barely anything you cheap bastards. Hell, I would even pay $10 for it.

I'd pay a buck for an ad free android app. The people who won't pay probably can't get their parents to fork over their credit card lol.

dude, what?

its $99 per year to add an app to the appstore, vs $25 one time to add one to the android market.

I think he is getting confused with the apps we pay for and the development costs associated with the app that skinnypup has to pay.

Features I'd like to see:

- Ability to take a photo from your phone (or phone's album) and post it to the forum.
- Thanks/Fail as mentioned.
- Multi quote instead of only Quote.
- Advanced search so you can at least limit searches to a forum

id like to see avatars and signatures as well

2 n r 05-18-2011 04:01 PM

so i see there r pop up ads now
i think theres more ads here than most other forums and sites i goto
curious how much does it cost to operate rs monthly

SkinnyPupp 05-18-2011 05:45 PM

I doubt we'd be able to include addons like thanks/fail and the chatbox. Everything else would be there, including avatars, posting photos, changing settings, etc. The interface is adapted for mobile more than the mobile site is (things are re-arranged, not just shrunk down)

I really like the apps and want to use them. I think the best way might be to have free and paid versions.

JesseBlue 05-18-2011 06:22 PM

if you can look at the kindness of your heart deep down inside...

free that is ad free...

we already have a lot of ads with the free web version....but you can still charge 0.99 for it...

SkinnyPupp 05-18-2011 06:25 PM

Ideally I would love to offer a free, ad free version. I just can't afford to

E-40six 05-18-2011 07:07 PM

wow, I knew people on RS were cheap, but I didnt know some were THAT cheap

SkinnyPupp 05-18-2011 07:09 PM

And right now I can only have 1 app per store. So it has to be either paid ad-free, or free with ads.

I think I might go paid for the iphone version and ad supported for the Android version. What do y ou think of that?

LiquidTurbo 05-18-2011 08:00 PM

That makes sense. Tons of people have iPhone.

this.

like i said before, i dont mind paying for the app. its just $1, its next to nothing.

Gt-R R34 05-18-2011 08:15 PM

If you're thinking for longer term, i suggest 2 different apps - cuz Android the trend seems there. You might want something dedicated there later.

Seriously. For what RS offers $0.99 is a bargain. I was fully expecting everyone to chip in and say yes to paying for an app and was surprised how many chose otherwise. This is beyond being cheap. It's like walking up to an old friend and kicking him in the balls right after he came over to help you fix your car.

Something tells me almost everyone who voted "only free and ad free" are the ones without smartphones at all. Fucken blackberry users :troll:

k3mps 05-18-2011 08:48 PM

i wish there was a bb one.
but i won't complain, as i rarely use rs when mobile.

Culture_Vulture 05-18-2011 08:57 PM

I voted that I'd rather not pay, but I don't mind if the app has ads,
but it really depends on how distracting the ads are. If they're big and constantly in the way, then I wouldn't mind paying a buck to browse RS when I'm out.

CP.AR 05-18-2011 09:13 PM

Why can't we just activate Tapatalk for the forums?

is the board not compatible or is there something else behind it...

Ronin 05-18-2011 09:17 PM

Why not make a free one with ads and a pay one with no ads? That model works for a lot of apps on iTunes.

$0.99 is fine. That's less than a double double at Timmy's let alone a coffee at Starbucks. Not everything can be free.

I'd much rather pay a one time fee and not have ads up.

StylinRed 05-18-2011 09:18 PM

my web browser on my phone gives me full access (aside from rs chat)

Tapatalk costs $1800 for a self branded app. Or they have a free version where they put their own ads on your forum. Neither of those is a viable option.

Lomac 05-18-2011 09:41 PM

What would an RS app give that RS Mobile doesn't? Just curious.
