There's a facebook group set up where people can post images of the riot and you can ID people you know.

If anyone knows folks who were down there you should take a look.

People would cry brutality though and the cops knew that, of course they can't just go in and start cracking skulls

For those of you criticizing the police its a tough line, i believe the police were a little too passive yesterday but honestly if they were overly aggressive they would be getting criticized for that too.

I was actually shocked the cops were able to stay as calm as they did. I am normally quick to jump on cops for being idiots and using brute force for no reason.

Fuck if people cry brutality.. Really.
If you don't leave, you DESERVE to get beaten to death. It's just that simple.

Purposely standing around doesn't help, taking photos doesn't help. Leaving..... helps.
If everyone would've left, then you would've had maybe afew hundred people still rioting and things would've gone alot better. Yet police can't control 100,000+ people, because they can't sort out rioters, from retards taking pictures. Instead they just kept pushing them from looting one store, to the next store.

When you put it that way, it's kind of ironic that cops use brute force on less deserving people of such an action.

I mean come on, in one of these pictures a cop is getting punched by one of these punks. You think they would be more aggressive in defending themselves. These cops should bang away at these guys. If there was a time for them to use force, it would have been then during the riot.

Well at least the police wont have to worry about any misconduct lawsuits. The worst that can happen if they dont use force is..... more insurance claims but at least it's not against the department/city.
Just looking at proud the department was that there was no violence during the olympics.

I would just like to say a few words,

After living in Edmonton during the Canada day riots and the Oilers riots of the 2006 season, this looks all too familiar.

Anybody who is pointing fingers at racial groups, age groups, out of towners, potential activists who used this as an opportunity etc... Don't bother trying to blame any one group more than another. I heard countless people talking about a potential riot before they even went down there, a lot of the people who went downtown last night were probably hoping it would turn into a "gong show", they wanted to be entertained.

Sure it was small groups that start the trouble, cause they are the only ones brave/stupid enough to take it to the next level, the rest of the audience were just waiting for someone to break the ice so they could act retarded and hopefully not bear the brunt if caught in the act.

Anybody that went downtown yesterday and did not immediately leave downtown after the game is partially responsible for what happened.

The good news is this, just like in Edmonton, many of the people will be ID'd and the cops will follow up and make a lot of arrests. Enjoy your time in court, you retards. If you're going to break the law at least have a purpose behind it. (Ie: Selling drugs to make money etc.)

It's not sad to me, it's not surprising, what is really hard to understand though is that us as a species have this tendency to crave self destruction in large groups... I should have taken some psychology in school.. maybe I would understand why.

Hats off to the cops for being so gentle. In Edmonton they were basically zero tolerance after Canada day, if you were screwing around at all expect to get your ass kicked and arrested/charged... that attitude along with heavy policing really curtailed the riots during 2006.

IMO the cops did not use nearly enough force, and thats probably part of the reason it got so out of hand.

Just cause he was holding the stick also doesn't say much... but I still say it's stupid to have picked it up/posed/got your picture taken/stepped forward into the area, unless he was defending or telling people to stop.

Since I didn't want to drink and drive, I left my car at the River Rock skytrain station overnight and slept at a friend's place. I came back to discover my car like this:

A summary of the damage:

- Windshield smashed
- Both side windows smashed
- Rear hatch glass smashed
- Rear hatch dented
- Front passenger side bumper damage
- Rear bumper damage
- Driver's side mirror pulled backwards
- Slurpee all over my hood
- Dents on my roof and my sunroof caved in from someone standing on the car.

Trying to sell the car right now too. A huge dec is going to kill my resale value. I'm probably out $2-3k in resale if not more.

I was downtown too at Ap Gu Jung on Robson. Once we saw the car was on fire we left and got back to Richmond. Watched all the craziness on TV with a pit in my stomach wondering what is wrong with people.

Then I wake up to discover my car like this. I'm just lost for words as to how a city can behave like this.

Kev

I think the public is smart enough to tell the difference when police use force on people causing huge amounts of violence and destruction vs an upset polish immigrant weilding a stapler.

I don't think ANYONE would have complained if the police brought out the rubber bullets and tear gas a hell of a lot sooner.
