But you gotta give props to Mcphee where he was inches away from getting fired. But look at the players he added last off season and how he's getting the returns now. Brouwer, Ward, Hamrlik. At first, I'm :suspicious , then now..:ahwow: | Give bigger props to Mcphee for dropping Boudreau when it was the caps' big guns who have been failing the team. The big guns have still have not lived up to potential, but Hunter is making up for it and then some with his bottom 6. Imagine the Caps if they can get Ovi, Backstrom, and Semin all playing as well as they can, plus the contributions from everyone else
I was happy with our 4 lines heading into the playoffs and I think the player personnel was there, we just weren't able to get our game together for one reason or another (cough AV).
Though I'm not a fan of AV, I will acknowledge his accomplishments and credentials. Those against getting rid of AV will ask who is more suitable for the coaching job and is available. I don't know. But coaching is one position where I don't think you can ride on accomplishments and past achievements. There have been multiple instances of young and relatively inexperienced coaches at the NHL level having success by being able to freshen up and engage the group in a different way. The way I see it if your players are good enough but not playing up to potential and the team is suffering as a result, it's the coach's job to find a solution to that problem. |
