Interesting day.

Eklund is such a tool: "The Kings deal looks like Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds. The Leafs are involved as well."

Ronin 06-23-2011 12:59 PM

I make that comparison only in terms of their place on the team. Can't deny that Philly shipped the cornerstones of their franchise that they could've built on for the next 10 years but instead, they made dumbass long term deals with Pronger. If they COULD trade Pronger, you don't think they'd rather do that? Philly screwed themselves here.

$51m over 9? That's a stupid deal for a guy with no playoff track record. There are stories about him taking days off practice, giving up during games when he feels his defense isn't playing well enough, etc. I mean, how is Bryz an upgrade over Vokoun? I bet they could've gotten Vokoun at $4m on July 1st without having to trade for him. Not that many teams in the market for goalie upgrades and Bryz is only 4 years younger.

Expresso 06-23-2011 12:59 PM

Gotta still look at the overall picture. If team chemistry is not good, then so be it. I don't think they would have let Pronger go. Any team would take Pronger in a heartbeat. I do agree that trading either Richards or Carter would've sufficed and Vokoun could have gave the same performance as Bryz.

Got me thinking, does Philly possibly have enough cap space to make a pitch to Brad Richards?

Ronin 06-23-2011 12:59 PM

Is Eklund EVER right?

Tim Budong 06-23-2011 01:02 PM

Eklunds sources probably troll him...
HAHAH

becuz u know..if he was legit..he wouldnt go by some shitty name like eklund

7seven 06-23-2011 01:03 PM

the rumored issues in the Flyers locker room was:
*Carter sleeping with Hartnell's wife
*Pronger and Richards not getting along, divided room as to who the real captain was
*Carter and Richards partying too much instead of dedication to hockey/team

krazynuck 06-23-2011 01:03 PM

big day for philly....I can't wait to see how other teams react now

They have about $7.5m in cap space after Bryzgalov's contract and still need 3 forwards at least. They currently have 9 forwards, and 6 D signed along with 3 goalies. Assuming they ditch Leighton or Bobrovsky's $1.55/$1.75 contract, they'll have $9m to spend. They have 5 RFA forwards that need new contracts.

Brad Richards has to be asking for at least $6m and he'd probably get $8m from the Rangers since they're stupid. Rangers have 11 forwards (assuming all their awesome RFAs get re-signed) and four D (+2 RFA) After the Drury buyout and raises to their RFAs that had career years, Rangers probably still have at least $15m to spend.

so true, David Vyborny, Freddy Modin and old ass Sergei Fedorov never quite cut it. I'm pumped for CBJ, fav player is Nash and finally he gets some scoring help

Off season plan Philly

Needs: One top nine forward, one defenceman, goaltender, cap room.

seem to hit some of the issues

LUUUUUUUU 06-23-2011 01:10 PM

hmm will Robyn Regehr waive his NTC

Bouncing Bettys 06-23-2011 01:12 PM

I don't think Philly wanted to take a risk in not landing a goalie on July 1st. They couldn't go another season with a question mark in goal and figured overpayment was worth it.

Exactly, plus Vokoun, as good as he is, is older and isn't as durable. Bryz is a workhorse and will be excited to be part of a winning organization.

in terms of eklund reporting the leafs being involved...HAHAHAAHAH

Avalanche wants to trade pick 11th in the first round. Talking to Vancouver (for Schneider) and Los Angeles (for Bernier) 8 minutes ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

^ Obviously since Schenn and Simmonds + 2nd are better...

Bouncing Bettys 06-23-2011 01:26 PM

FFS Burke. I would have taken that trade.

At $10M, Bryzgalov will be NHL's highest paid player in 2011-12. Last I talked to him, after DET sweep, he said: "I am goat." One rich goat. half a minute ago via TweetDeck

Brian Burke is such a fucking moron

Leafs were also interested in Carter and Kadri was discussed, but Tor wouldn't include Kulemin to close deal for Carter.

We would be retarded to only trade for for an 11th for schneids.

I would imagine if schneids is being thrown around, duchene has to be mentioned as well.

As of this second, still nothing on ESPN's home page about the Carter or Richards deals or the Bryzgalov signing. Nothing.
