I agree. First of all, Colorado's a divisional rival. Secondly, we need a top 6 player to play with Kesler, not a project who may or may not develop and even be an NHL caliber player.

trading within your division is like dating a first cousin....shit just gets messed up

If Chris Stewart was still on Colorado I would maybe do 2nd or 11th pick and stewart...but even then I probably would want someone more physical

LA Kings are a better team now. I can see them having a really good season this year

DanHibiki 06-23-2011 01:51 PM

After the shakiness that happened to Lu last season, I can't imagine giving up Schneider.

I assumed next season Lu would be on a shorter leash and Schneider have more opportunities.

Can anybody explain the motivation behind this? He is a Free Agent July 1st anyways, and can help his former team and employer by waiving it with little to no effect to him.

In fact, having his rights traded to a different team might increase his value as other teams who are looking at him may overbid knowing that the team with his rights has a head start on negotiations?

maybe the team that wants his negotiation rights is a team he does not want to play for or even talk with

But he can pretty much just sit on his hands and wait it out until July 1st regardless, no?

Yeah, unless he just doesn't like the organization/management and wants to screw them over and burn a few bridges, I don't really understand why he would do that.

Gumby 06-23-2011 02:06 PM

Brad Richards and Mike Richards - too confusing! :willnill:

Bouncing Bettys 06-23-2011 02:06 PM

I guess B. Richards wants to have the ability to choose where he goes. On the other hand, could he not give a list of teams he would accept a trade to?

But he will be a free agent July 1st regardless of whatever team he's on. Trading him will essentially give the team the right to talk and negotiate with his agent. Pretty much like what Hamuis went through last year.

maybe he thinks if other teams see him already talking to a team they will back off and use their money else where ASAP...

I wonder what the list would be

Good point, I can see that scenario as well.

I guess he doesn't wanna have to deal with his rights being traded to another team and have to talk to that GM??? Maybe he already has plans on what he wants to do come Jul 1st.

Perhaps, but I thought the Agents do all the talking? Be like "Hey, just humour them, I'll be by my pool with a beer in my hand... See you July 1st!"

Bouncing Bettys 06-23-2011 02:28 PM

Thanks to Eklund constantly bringing up the Leafs to gain hits on his site, I have been well aware of Richards becoming a UFA for more than a year now. Looks like he just wants to screw the Stars over.

Apparently Burke offered a 2nd for his rights earlier today.

Edit: or he doesn't want to screw over a team he has no intention of signing with.

Ronin 06-23-2011 03:09 PM

Why are so many people talking about Paul Stastny potentially coming to the Canucks?

Do we really want to trade for a guy that will instantly become the Canucks highest paid player AND will most likely play on the 2nd line? That's just silly.

Also hearing Kris Versteeg next one out in Philly.

SportsnetSpec
If Troy Brouwer is available in Chicago, as we're hearing, Vancouver should be calling. So should Toronto and Edmonton.

Ya they would have made it to round 2 if they didn't have Kopitar and friends injured.
