What's wrong with that? Yea it's boring and wasting time. But it seems like whoever acts first will lose out.

Like basketball, NHL can set a 8 second rule to leave half court (or their defensive zone).

No that wouldn't work because you would be punishing the team with the puck. The problem is the team defending who is playing the trap style. That is what you want to get rid of.

It's not even a trap. It's much lower.


Trapping requires 1 forechecker to force the breakout pass to a certain side of the ice where the trap can choke it. Hence, the 1-3-1 term
