New Canadian Plastic Bills

The bank of Canada today announced what the new $100 plastic bill will look like.

The bills will be phased in from now and until 2013.

"Frers explains 'frontiers' is the theme of the new currency. "The new $100 bill celebrates notable Canadian contributions to medicine [and by] pioneering the use of insulin to treat diabetes and genetic research."

The $5 bill will highlight Canadian contributions to space travel.

Starting in November 2011, the $100 bill will be available and the $50 note will be rolled out in March of 2012. The $5, $10, and $20 notes will be unveiled and issued by the end of 2013."

Before I read that line about insulin, I thought that was a Stanley Cup next to the "100".

The windows and the associated security features are pretty cool .

Awesome. Those are some good looking bills.

Looks pretty nice, it has the same transparent "window" as the HK $10 bill.

Im looking forward to the durability of theses new bills :fullofwin:

it's the same as the new birth certificates.

They've been using these in Australia for a while. I saw a thing on them a year ago when they decided to switch over. I'm glad to see it's finally happening.

If you put your money through the wash now... it won't be destroyed. Also iirc these are some what bacteria resistant. Which will be a blessing for people who handle cash all day.

Nice, no more accidentally ripping bills and ruining them by washing them LOL

I know! I usually just tape them together and go to the banks and exchange new ones after I collect a hand full of them.

vitaminG 06-20-2011 02:49 PM

great, now bring back the $1 bill!

FerrariEnzo 06-20-2011 03:02 PM

Australian and New Zealand currency are exactly like these... feels really smooth...

ilvtofu 06-20-2011 03:39 PM

HK $10 is like this too, damn they look sharp :)

LOL The hidden numbers at 2:10 in the video are so badass

Harvey Specter 06-20-2011 03:42 PM

Very cool.

twitchyzero 06-20-2011 03:59 PM

maybe these will be harder to replicate...fucking counterfeit douches

Iceman_2K 06-20-2011 04:07 PM

Definitely a lot harder to duplicate or create fakes. A single piece of plastic is harder to create than printing something onto a type of paper.

gonna keep some bills for souvenirs
