Anyone with a 3GS running the new iOS 5? Debating whether I should update or not, been running on 4.2.3 for months with untethered jailbreak. I know I can tethered jailbreak the new OS but just wondering if it's worth it, since it will decrease speed/battery life even more.

Reserved my white 4s 16gb last night from apple.ca and picked it up today at oakrigde. They activated it for me and I got 6gb of data for $30, all in all it was quite easy. Only bad part was how busy it was, can't believe the number of people walking out the store with new phones and no contract, guy in front of me actually bought two..both black though

regardless of what features iOS5 holds for you, if you plan on doing a tethered jb it's not worth it. the windows version of RS just came out today (fixes the 3GS on 06.15 location problem), for the past week my buddy's been paranoid about his 3GS since i am the only person he knows with a mac that can help him tether boot lol.

They activated it for you, so is it part of a contract? Do you get subsidy back from the carrier?

I renewed my contract with Fido. They put in an order for me for the iPhone 4S with no idea when it'll actually get shipped. I am getting 'Back Order Status Update' e-mails every other day, with no change to the status...

I have been trying to hunt down a locked Fido from Fido stores the past few days. But if it's possible to just go to Apple and buy one and still get subsidy from Fido then that's even better!

Apple will do hardware upgrades for you and the phone will come unlocked

pretty sure you're wrong. only the ones that you buy outright directly from apple come unlocked.

Did he not jailbreak it on his own computer? If he jailbroke it on his own Windows computer then I don't see why he would need your mac to tether boot it?

It already is. The wireless wave I bought mine at on release date had no line up what so ever. A few friends went on the weekend with no issues either.

How is everyone's 4S battery life doing?
Mine seem to drain from 100% to 90% overnight.

Battery isn't that bad. Mine went from 57% to 50% overnight. It's the notification stuff. Turn off whatever you don't need. I just turned off ALL of my notifications. I'm old school and like checking my phone manually for stuff. Let's see if it makes a difference.

the fastest way is to call fido and tell them you will hunt down one yourself. assuming your plan is already negotiated, you just sign the contract at the apple store

nope, i jb it for him on my mac. the windows version just came out yesterday.

fido said they have to ship it to me cause something something is different department

I was due for hardware upgrade from rogers. When I went to pick up the 4s it was not listed as upgrade option, even though i had already talked to rogers retention. So guy at apple called rogers directly and worked out everything with me, did not expect that. Phone will be locked to which ever carrier you are using once activated with sim card.

I got same pricing as new customer and also $50 rebate for hardware upgrade from rogers
