So many awesome apps out there, you have to pick. I personally like mapquest. If you do not have GPS, this is a good substitute and free app. Only catch is it runs off your data.

The latest GPS app is Waze. Its got a super user friendly interface and community support for tagging where the bad traffic are. There are actually more people that use it in Vancouver now (you can see other Waze users as you are driving around :fullofwin:). You can tag traffic by how bad it is and can also tag where the cops are so other people will know. The best part about it is if you're just sitting in traffic it automatically asks you if you would like to tag the bad traffic. GPS has turn by turn directions and it loads up really fast (even when switching alternate routes). One of my fav apps right now! I've avoided some roads with bad traffic/construction with this app in the last couple days

Just want to do a final update
Got my iPhone 4S. White 16GB from Fido through the mail. They shipped it with a micro-SIM that says it's been activated, even tho it shouldn't be... so it's essentially DOA. Duked it out at the Fido store for 20 minutes and concluded that will need a new SIM.. and start to want proof of purchase, UPS box it was in, etc and other BS. I just paid $11.2 CAD and settled it in 5 minutes.
So the entire duration was order at retention Friday 14th morning. Got shipping notification Tuesday the 18th and got it in the mail Wednesday the 20th ~5pm. Not bad at all~

still pretty newb with the phone, need help reaching its max potential

Berzerker 10-22-2011 06:24 AM

Got my 4S from Fido in 3 days. Awesome delivery time. Already have the Waze app but have yet to try it. Siri is pretty cool although some functions don't work in Canada yet (things that require maps and locations)

It's my first touch screen phone so I'm noob at typing though so that's frustrating haha.

Siri was not enabled out of the box and I had to stumble around to turn it on. At first I thought they shipped me a regular iPhone 4 lol. Facetime is awesome and it's really cool that it uses wifi and not data although having the option would be nice.

All in all I think I'll keep it. I was thinking about selling it and getting a Galaxy II S but this phone grew on my quickly.

Berz out.

dangonay 10-22-2011 08:45 AM

^ I use Siri all the time now. It's way faster for things like making appointments or setting reminders. There's no way anyone, no matter how fast they are, could ever get close to Siri's speed for basic tasks like this.

You need to do some setup to help with Siri. Make sure you are in your Contact list (inc home & work addreses) and select this contact when setting up Siri. Also turn on location services for Siri. This will allow you to do things like "set a reminder to call xxx when I leave work".

I installed Vlingo on my iPhone 4S to do some comparisons, but it's quite "stupid" compared to Siri. I don't know if Vlingo is the same across all platforms, but the iPhone version is nothing like Siri at all, which is funny since they advertise it as "bringing Siri like functionality to your 3GS or 4".

A quick example? You ask Vlingo the weather today and it gets that right. If you follow it up with "what about Toronto" it brings up search results for information about Toronoto.

You ask Siri the weather and follow it up with "what about Toronto" and it gets the weather in Toronto. You can even say the word "Toronto" and it gets it right.

It's a subtle difference, but a fundamental one.

It really sucks that not everything is enabled for people outside of the US, so I hope they add the rest of the features to Canada soon.

LiquidTurbo 10-22-2011 08:46 AM

^ Asking Siri to check the weather is retarded. People can't tap to open the weather app?? :troll:

Anyone having problems finding a case that fits the 4s? The silent button is lower then the 4.

What are some good games to DL?

BTW I love this over my BB...still got get used to the touch screen.

c3m 10-22-2011 11:46 AM

^ When you buy cases for 4S, look for cases that will fit the Verizon iPhone 4. 4S uses the same antenna structure as the Verizon iPhone 4.

The current Apple Bumper (released in Feb) has a bigger side opening for the silent switch. It also has a tighter fit than the original bumper that they released last year.

Can anyone confirm if the only place to buy unlocked iPhone4S is from Apple store? Do they have any in stock? They asked me to reserve online but it always shows as unavailable.

dkvby 10-22-2011 09:25 PM

U have to do it quick at 9pm, usually within 10mins its all gone. I just reserved a 32gb white and pick up tomorrow
