Do you know how much of a micromanager Steve Jobs was? He had a handle in just about everything, even the food selection for company events. To say he was just a face of the company and did nothing to get it to its success today.. is just plain ignorant. |

and this is just a damage control ploy by slowly easing into it after all he hasn't made any public appearances and his biography was already released etc |

Why would anyone other than shareholders care who the CEO of apple is? |

Steve Jobs is the ultimate underdog story, he got kicked out of his own company, came back and brought it to prominence. Even his side project Pixar turned out to be a huge player in the entertainment industry (even banishing his long time nemesis Michael D. Eisner in the process). Regardless I wish him well, but as of tonight it's an end of an era. |

good time to invest. like others have said, when iphone 5 comes out, prices will rise just like it did with 4. |
they should appoint The Woz as CEO and get some real innovations out there not just rebadging existing products since they wont have Jobs sell factor they'll need real products Quote:
Aww shame guess Jobs' fuckover really cut deep http://www.bloomberg.com/video/74391006/ video |

I don't think he cares that much about the money. Once you hit a billion dollars, another billion dollars or so doesn't satisfy you as much as the previous. |

So regardless of whether I buy an Apple product or not, the truth of the matter is the next iPhone and the next one after that will determine what kind of phone I get. Without them, we'd all still be using regular phones. On the other hand, without Apple, mp3 players would still sound awesome and companies like iRiver and Cowon would still thrive. So who cares? I care and so should you if you like fancy mobile toys. |
I don't think his reputation is very well known with the younger crowd (grade 7 and 8's). When i was coaching high school basketball, when he took a leave for health, i asked the team what they thought of him during a water break. All of them said "well he's just a ceo, all he does it manage a company'. They don't seem to understand that although at the time he was a CEO, he created revolutionary technology. If you ask the youth, such as juniors in high school, what Steve Jobs has done in his life, they will just say "manage a company, made the ipod", even though he did SO much more than that. |

The only thing Steve Jobs is good at is marketing. Now, he is the MASTER at it, and has actually built a CULT around a COMPANY, but that's about it. There is nothing that special about their products, once you evaluate them critically. |
My bad, I shouldn't have said pushing the technical boundaries, in so much as pushing the boundary of what is mainstream. I'm as much an apple hater as anybody out there, but even I have to admit because they control everything so carefully, there is a level of "out of the box" integration that no other companies seemed to have pulled off. |
they only control those who are dumb enough to fall for it. |

What phone in 2004 was better than the original iPhone? |
Regardless, I'm excited for the new Steve Jobs release.. Faster, Thinner, Lighter, and maybe a white sweater this time :D |
iPhone concept was conceived in 2005 i believe..but didn't come out until 2007 edit: oops you were referring to SP's post |
Yup in 2005 we were using Windows Mobile phones, with many of the same features the iphone came out with. The only thing the iphone really added (and it is a very important thing) is a centralized app store that is heavily integrated. BTW you wouldn't believe how expensive data plans were back then  |
^ I remember Bell had $25/4MB lol'd hard when I first saw that many years ago |

hell palm pilots etc were better phones |

Then a swapped to Palm Treo, and for once it didn't crash, but installing apps was ridiculously tedious and programs left all sorts of files everywhere. But at least it didn't crash. Too bad Palm didn't keep their game up and kept their archaic OS for too long:okay: |
Windows Mobile wasn't that bad, provided you got a device with enough RAM. That goes for any device really... If there is one part you don't want to skimp out on, it's RAM. |
