The "spray when wet" aspect of modern sealants is such a game changer for car care - massive time saver. Detailing a car used to be an all day affair and now I can bang out a complete job at home in less than 3 hours that looks great and lasts.

Pro level ceramic coating + spray sealant + twice annual iron remover = win.

im actually planning to do this today. i have mothers ceramic spray and i just washed my car a few days ago. quick wipe with onr and i will do the spray on ceramic after.

never knew about the spray when wet thing. i guess i don't read directions. could i just spray it on the wet car then leaf blow the car dry?

my only beef with spray ceramic is when you get it on the windshield. When you use the wipers it'll cause insane amounts of hazing, and that drives me utterly insane. So much so that I usually end up buying new wipers

I think of myself as a novice detailer at best

1. Wash with Meguiar's gold class
2. Sonax spray for wheels
3. Dry off with chamois
4. Clay bar with Meguiar's Quick Detailer
5. Hand wax with Meguiar's

I've kept it that simple for years now and results are quite nice. A polisher would save me some time but I'm the type who actually enjoys doing this manually. Both cars being smaller, it takes me a good 2-3 hours unless I'm hauling ass trying to get it all done asap.

IMO a machine doesn't necessarily makes it faster, you'll still take the same amount of time as there's the same amount of surface area to work on, but you can get more done with a machine as each pass of the machine produces more work than you can by hand.

Yep, there's basically 3 ways you can go which all work:

1) Spray it on while the car is wet and rinse it off. This sticks on the car the least but it's still pretty good.
2) Spray it on then blow dry the car.
3) Blow dry then spray on car and wipe off. (Assuming the car isn't 100% dry, more like 80-90% dry). This sticks on the car the most.

I usually do option 2 if the car is pretty wet but have done option 1 sometimes. A little covers a lot so you can dilute the spray 1:1 with water (or even a bit more if you use it at every wash) to help with coverage.

Word of caution is that some products get a bit streaky applied this way if there's not a lot of water on the car (or you apply it too thick) - I had this problem when using Hyperseal and Kamikaze Overcoat but it's been fine with TEC852 and I bet it's fine with the off the shelf stuff.

Oh yeah, there's also Meguiar's Spray Wax if you're feeling lazy. Can be sprayed on the car when wet and leaves a decent shine. If you spray it on top of an actual coat of wax, it'll be extra shiny!

im so lazy nowadays ive distilled my routine into a less steps.
foam cannon car, have my rinse bucket full and use a wand/mop style chenille brush to mop down the car in sections.
i dont have a soap bucket anymore i just rely on the soap from the foam cannon. if it starts to get too thin by the time i get to the other side of the car, just foam more on.
as for wheels, i just give them a quick mopping then pressure wash them.

say what you will above those wand microfibers, it saves a lot of time and effort. using a mitt like a caveman is like painting your walls without a roller extension pole

My bottle is pretty old and doesn't look like that. Perhaps this is the newer version? I'm sure they're charging a higher price because they added the word ceramic to it. From the description, it sounds like it does the same thing. I usually get mine from Cambodian Tire for about $15/btl?

I can bang out 3 cars in 2 hours if I plan it right. This spray ceramic wax stuff is great! Of course this isn't including decon or claybar etc. But for maintenance wash this makes it super fast and easy.

As mentioned below yes you can but it's best to spray SPARINGLY as a little goes a long way, and I use a wet towel to basically help spread the stuff around. Like 1 spray per panel, wipe with MF towel and use it to basically spread the spray ceramic wax.

How are you getting it on the windshield??? One spray 6-12 inches in the middle of the panel, and then use a MF towel to spread. You shouldn't be getting it near the windshield at all...

Use a different towel for glass, obviously.

IMO the wetter the better, it helps reduces streaks/splotchyness.

Yes, that, or any of the similar products from any of the big car care name brands. The ceramic (silicon dioxide) they add does wonders for the durability of the stuff. Non ceramic sealant/wax will last a month or so parked outside - longer if you have the hardcore stuff like Sonax Polymer Net Shield or similar - but this spray ceramic wax is easier to apply than Sonax PNS and lasts just as long if not longer. Foolproof!

If you follow instructions (i.e. apply when wet) - there should be minimal buffing required. If you're doing it in direct sunlight, make sure that the panel is extra wet as the cooling helps even out the wax drying speed. Towel should be very moist when applying.

anyone ever try to do any ghetto garage painting of their cars?

my wifes 2013 hyundai has clear coat failure only on the handles and duckbill spoiler.
kind of an eyesore so i wanted to try to respray them the ghetto way.
i heard that 2k paint/clear all in one spray cans could do the job fairly well, just have to sand the parts until smooth.

doesnt have to look like a million bucks, if it looks fairly good for 2-3 more years that's probably about as long as we would likely keep the car, and it would help it's resale value too or at least not deter people who don't like to see ugly failing paint.

Go for it. Done it a few times indoors/outdoors/under a 100$ crappy tire cover. Plastidip/primer/paint/clear.

Suggestions:
-wait until outdoor temp is high enough as per paint can requirements.
-if doing it outdoors, wait until its a day with 0 wind.
-start spraying off car, and end spraying off car, otherwise you will most likely get spatter on initial press.
-depending how much you are spraying, invest in the 5$ handle style trigger. Your thumb will thank you.
-prep is most important part, the more time you spend sanding surfaces and they are transition free, the better the paint will look. Make sure you clean off surface and let it fully dry.
-buy a god dam mask, those fumes are magical.
-use newspaper and cover all areas with painters tape that you are not painting. Ideally about +2ft past painting area, even better if its 3-4ft. Otherwise you will get a spatter all over your windows/panels. As me how i know......
-proper ventilation if doing it indoors, let the fan run way before and after, otherwise you will pick up dust.
-keep your pets far away from garage / painting area
-let the panels properly dry
-thin coats of paint are much better than one thick coat, that shit will run.
-test the paint off car, before starting, ive bought many cans that have a shit nozzle / clogged check valve from the store.

yeah luckily i have a shop where i can do all of this, i even have a big spray booth. also i have lots of experience spray painting things since i do lots of touchups, i've just never done anything with a car before. thanks for all the tips, i will def post some pics when i get around to doing it!
