Assuming that you are born in HK, you have rights of abode in HK and they cannot deny your entry into Hong Kong. They can, however, detain you once you are in HK lol~

In the past, HKers are able to use their HK ID cards to gain entry into Hong Kong at immigration. My mom went to HK last year despite having an old and outdated HK ID card, and I am pretty sure she just used that to get in. If you do that, I believe you must apply for a new ID card within a certain period, and it is a bit of a PITA to do so if you aren't staying long enough to pick up the new card yourself.

I can't offer any suggestions on how you can get into China proper though. In the past, it was totally fine to just apply for a Chinese VISA using your Canadian passport. But I'm sure things are different now.

I have the "return to my origins" ID from HK but no HK SAR passport. I've been told (3rd hand) info that I can be denied entry. I'm trying to apply for a China travel visa but I'm also being told I'll be denied. The travel agencies said rules have changed since Covid but there's no definitive set of rules online.

So now I'm trying to figure out how to clear the mud, am I ok with just my Canadian Passport and my go home ID or do I need to try to get a China Visa, or do I need to go to HK and enter from there?

What a pain.

Is there a benefit of using your HKID to enter HK vs. using a Canadian passport?

I've been banned from China so I have no advice to offer.

After lots of digging around this is the most recent article on the topic. Travel agents said most people who still hold a HKID will be denied a visa. I don't know what people who don't have a 回鄉證 is going to do as you cannot just get one nowadays without a HKSAR passport, and HKID isn't sufficient in entering China.

So we are at a point where we'll just wing it. If I'm denied boarding then I'll buy a HK flight and then flight to SH from HK. Pain in the ass but there's really no other option.

they expected him to fall in line but he could not, as that would be too mainstream.

:moderated:

bcrdukes 01-15-2026 04:29 PM

I'll keep it very simple.

"Why are you here? Are you even Chinese?" - China
"Visiting family / tourism. yes, I am Chinese." - bcrdukes
"No, you are not. You can never be Chinese. GTFO." - China

#insertBRBusingimaginationmeme

We'll leave it at that.

whitev70r 01-15-2026 04:32 PM

and that's how HKrdukes --> bcrdukes

bcrdukes 01-15-2026 04:33 PM

I'm okay not going back to China. :lol

68style 01-15-2026 05:26 PM

spoon.ek9 01-15-2026 05:32 PM

That's why the meets are at Ironwood, duh

Badhobz 01-15-2026 05:39 PM

thats strange, when i go back to China they welcome me with open arms like the prodigal son returned.

CPP Customs: O HERROW! YOU COME BACK HAOOOO WRONG?

ME: O HI HI! NOT WRONG, TWO-TREE-WEEKS OKAY?

CPP Customs: O. OKAY ! Hail XI!

ME: HAIL EMPEROR XI!

would be interesting to bring the tiny honger midget next time.. they'll probably deny her and call her a separatist midget.

YOU GROW!, YOU DWARF STAY

ME NOT GROW, ME NEED DWARF!

YOU GROW NAO!

OKA BAI MIDGET >.> .... i go find new midget wife.

I think someone using a Canadian passport to get into Hong Kong can only legally stay for 90 days. Whereas if an HKID is used, then obviously there are no restrictions.

Also, I believe there are express entry lines for HKID holders.

shop around. BCAA and Pacific Blue Cross are the larger providers but I wouldn't say they are the cheapest.

Pretty much any independent insurance broker offers travel insurance, it's just a matter of going in and getting a quote.

When applying, make sure they disclose ALL current health information, including current conditions, prescriptions, last doctor visit, etc, You dont' want your claim to be denied because you didn't reveal a pre-existing condition.

Also if you have a permanent HKID, you can get a mainland card which lets you go there as much as you want with no visa or time restrictions (maybe there's time restrictions, I never needed to check)

Dude just bought another house and a private jet to go along with his fire truck. All 3 are for content. The house is for his tech house series where he is going to upgrade the house with a ton of tech and sell it. The fire truck was for last years April fools loke. The PJ is for I think lan gaming in the air but he has not said anything about it.

According to the National Post, as part of the new agreements being signed with China today/yesterday, Canadians will no longer require a visa to enter China. Carney said that it should come into effect soon, Just in time for your vacation hopefully.
