There's two in Nagoya, the Toyota car museum, and the technology museum. I went to the tech museum, which showcases Toyota's roots in cotton spinning and weaving tech, and the transition to car making. They had a lot of machines on display. The one thing I wanted to see is the CF weaving machine they made for the LFA pillars, but alas not available.

where are you guys uploading photos these days? I'd share some if there's an easy service to use (aka how photobucket used to be back in the day).

anyways, shinkansen from Shinagawa station to Shin-Osaka was indeed 2.5 hours.

this was my first time doing a multi-city trip so the logistics were overwhelming for me.

1. Narita Express to Shinagawa 69min (nice)
2. Nozomi Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka station (143min)
3. Hikari Shinakansen to Mishima station (140min)
4. Bus from Mishima to Kawaguchiko (80min)
5. Fuji Excursion train from Kawaguchiko to Shinjuku station (120min)
6. Shinjuku to Narita Airport (multiple routes with varying costs but approx 60-90min)

Not to mention all the trains involved in day-to-day activities.

Big plus was using Klook to book the train tickets, made it easy to book, cancel and change as needed. Bus ticket was more tricky because you have to use the Japanese website and I remember faking a phone number. Email confirmation for that one. If you miss it, it's one hour until the next.

I just use Flickr. The Pro subs is ok-priced and never had any problem with it. The beauty of it is that you can share whatever resolution as you see fit with a few clicks.

I use Flickr as well, but I can't find out how to get the coding on my phone to share photo here, so I need to use a desktop every time I share something on here.

Refresh flickr
Copy bb code, need to erase like the last half of it

I just use imgur, it's pretty easy to use. Weirdly the mobile site works better than the desktop one.

We've done Tokyo -> Kyoto -> Osaka on a previous trip. It never bothered me when it was just the two of us. With kids it was overwhelming indeed, nevermind the fact that my younger one is an absolute diva.

We are still going to travel, but probably not multi-city until the younger one is 5+.

It goes back to regret not renting a car. I feel like we missed so much taking the train from Nagoya to Takayama and back, and it would have been a lot easier if it was on our schedule instead of having to chase the train. Yes it's a lot more money, we are talking probably 2x to 3x the cost of the train, but it's not unaffordable.

It may just be that we prefer road trip style travel as well. When we did Euro Delivery, being able to hit all the little towns and visit and revisit spots on our own time was amazing. We went back to Eltz in the evening after dinner hoping that the lights would be on, it wasn't, but I did not regret that one bit.

last time we went to japan it was actually the same price as renting a car vs taking the JR pass for 2 people. Of course we just rented a corolla but it was totally worth it, having the freedom to drive anywhere and everywhere. Yeah tolls add a bit of money, but you can always avoid toll and take the scenic route. Parking wasn't that bad either in the city.

This is likely a dumb question, but are the red envelopes for Chinese weddings a specific type of envelope you should get, or is that just like a generic name for a cash gift now?

Not sure I understand your question... but if there is writing on the red envelope, make sure it's appropriate for a wedding (i.e. it doesn't say "happy new year").

Yes that pretty much just means cash. If you can't find an red pocket (hong Bao) cash is king

I think you'll want to search specifically for "hong bao for wedding", otherwise as mentioned, you might wind up with ones marked with messages of Happy New Year etc lol.

Example on Amazon:

Probably a safe bet to look specifically for this "double happiness" symbol:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doub...s_(calligraphy)

I'm not in tune with my culture enough to know what other more advanced options there are lol.

And you probably knew this, but avoid the number 4 in whatever cash amount you give, because it happens to sound the same as the word "die" lol.

Yah don’t do the super Chinesey thing. It’s basically all money grab anyways so just take your 200 bucks and shove it in a hallmark card with something funny on it. ^like above.

I'm white, going to a Chinese wedding (well half Chinese wedding). I'm trying to determine if I need to track down those fancy envelopes RabidRat posted a picture of, or if people just use a regular plain red or white envelope these days.

If you just put cash in a card, my fear is that the cash will fall out and become misplaced.

I would track down a “double happiness” red envelope (like the one RabidRat showed) and even consider writing on the envelope so that they know who it came from.

Watches are fine (my parents gave one to my brother in law as wedding gift).

Clocks are a no-no.
