My wife came to me looking for a travel ring.. sure.. aliexpress 2 carat $8 bucks. so she wears it on vacation. You won't even be able to pull that off as a engagement ring despite no one can tell the diff unless they look carefully.

None of them can ever logically argue against the fact that "real" diamonds 100% involve human suffering in order to be obtained. But as usual, society/the market has influenced them too much to care.

There was a pretty big group of customers all waiting and complaining while workers were just going along at casual speed. Kind of pissed me off lol. I was short on time so I didn't bother ordering anything.
Before that, I paid a visit to Vegas Vacations. I was hoping to take a photo in front of the store as a joke but to my surprise their doors were open. Just by chance, there was a customer there and you could tell he was upset. He kicked the glass door, yelled at some lady working there. Walked in, kicked the desk, yelled some more. Later on, sat down and continued yelling. Sign on the door indicates they are only open to deal with existing customers. Man, I do not envy anyone who works at that shit show right now | https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/art...nce-cancelled/
there was a CTV new 3 mins video.
I have been a loyal client with Las Vegas vacation for solid 10+ years. Finny has been great. Now it's a younger girl took over, i'm assuming that's her daughter?
She said she is owned by 'owners" that's the same line I use when I pitch to clients fully knowing i'm the only owner.
Long story short, i can't comment on the new / license suspension, but I can say
a) I've used her and it was free to pick seats at an airline... (they make like $20 bucks on a ticket) (2005-201X)
b) I did book a trip to vegas and they got me credit etc and picked a decent hotel for me which I would not have noticed. (2014)
c) NOW---- the time she SCREWED ME OVER...
I booked a long trip YVR, stop over in HKG then to NZ. that ticket was $k and she got me a deal to be in prem economy.
24 hours before check in, I couldn't check in, i'm like wtf, i got an actual ticket print out. SO i called Finny and I had to be super nice to her cause if she Fs me over, and cancels, my entire plan is doomed.
I think what she did was booked the entire ticket again. I don't know what happened, but I got on the flight and 30 days later, took a flight back.
To date after 6+ years later, I still have a pending charge on my credit card that's on dispute but never collected. wtf is right.
That's finny in the balaneceigagiagag toque |

My wife isn't a jewellery person at all. She rarely wears it, and the stuff she has isn't expensive at all. Just a few sentimental items passed down through the family.
But when it came to her ring, that was a really big deal to her. And honestly, it made me feel good to get her something that's rare, one of a kind, etc.
Don't get me wrong, we're not talking a crazy expensive ring. It's like 0.92 carat or something. And we made sure to get a Canadian diamond.
So yeah, call it a victim of marketing, but I'm ok with it.
As for my wedding band, it's a cheap tungsten one. They tried to sell me on gold this an gold that and I was like no way, what a waste of money |

Canadian former Olympic snowboarder-turned alleged drug kingpin Ryan Wedding is now in police custody, according to multiple reports.
Wedding, who’s accused of running a multi-billion dollar drug empire, was listed on the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives list and was reportedly being protected by the notorious Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico prior to his arrest.
The FBI first publicly identified Wedding as a suspect in a sweeping indictment released in October of 2024. At the time, authorities in the United States charged that Wedding was the mastermind behind a drug-trafficking empire that was shipping narcotics from Colombia, through Mexico, and into the U.S. and Canada. Nine other Canadians were also named in the indictment.

They tried to sell me on gold this an gold that and I was like no way, what a waste of money | same. we were ignorant of 'quality' and went with a name brand location to give her piece of mind. i didn't like the idea of it, but hey, it's more for her than for me, and she was being very reasonable, smaller diamond to suit the size of her hand which is small. similar to band, small custom made band i swear was like $100 (again, small hand so thin band).
me, i think i got a $20 stainless steel band off ebay
i didn't go with tungsten b/c i heard those really hard metals are hard to break if you're ever in an accident and would always fear losing a finger
probably stems to a foreman explaining why guys on site wore silicone wedding bands was due to risk of degloving, and then googled some pics to explain to me what that was

Roving CBSA officers around. We had just come back from HK too. Wife got the Q's about where we bought the engagement ring, wedding band. I got grilled on my wedding band (Costco), and watch. It didn't get as far as the more formal grilling.
Part of it too is they're looking at how you answer the questions as well. If you hesitate, or the answers don't mesh, they might take a bigger interest in you.
CBSA would definitely look at flights from specific destinations to target. You know theres specific ethnicities that are more likely to under declare stuff.

Not a CBSA officer and putting aside what some ethnicities tend to do more than others is it really a common thing for people to travel abroad and be buying engagement rings and or wedding bands? Like does it not seem normal that if a couple has been married for years already had these items bought many moons ago and they simply just wear it all the time travelling or not? Anyway just curious as these stories are common which is one of the reasons why my wife never ever travels with any jewelry or even her more expensive handbags but of course the main reason being she doesn't want to damage it or get it jacked while on a trip.

^ I've been seeing rumblings about it on social media but haven't watched it myself
In other news, the new 24/7 dim sum joint in Richmond is now open (soft opening). Currently 9am-9pm, 12 dishes available, $4.99/item. Might go check this out when I have time. I'm sure there's plenty of nurses who will visit after their night shifts lol. Also, all the drunk ass people who don't want No.9 will likely give this place a try once it's actually 24/7.

CBSA will look for high value items like camera lenses, watches etc. You can always preregister your items with them via the BSF407, Identification of Articles for Temporary Exportation form, and prove it's an item you had before you travel. A couple of video/photographers I know have done that wth their gear.
If you're travelling with a 3 watch roll, might be a good idea to register them. I travel with a Seiko 5 GMT auto and G-shocks, so I've never bothered.

Take a photo of your expensive shit before you leave on vacation, im sure women have about 3000 selfies in their camera roll with their engagement rings
Officer says pay duty, show him time stamp, case closed
I travel with expensive camera gear, never been asked. When in doubt throw some dirt on it, and its no longer new. (Coming back from usa day trip with "nothing to declare")

Did that once before. Mom and dad got their Rolex seized. We had to provide proof. Took a while (1990), but we got back with no tax. If they did take a CZ ring... PERFECT.. just leave it with the guard ... F that BS.
I have to say, if it's an engagement ring that you bought somewhere else... then yeah.. you gotta pay duties...
Just cause it's engagement ring, you still gotta pay taxes.

Indians often bring gold back and forth between Canada and India. Gold is a sentimental thing in Indian families. So if you're going to India for a wedding, or coming back from India after getting married, more often than not they'll be looking for any gold jewellery that was acquired during the trip, and then expect you to pay duty on it.
