I failed. Again :okay: After I failing PSYC101 you'd think I'd learn to stay away from PSYC classes but no, the masochist in me decided to torture myself with yet another PSYC course.

Fuck me.

Anyone has the comm354 MT tmr?

lavisxice 02-05-2013 04:30 PM

im slacking in my courses :(
what would u guys do if you had a really low like 55%-60% avg for core courses to transfer . UBC sauder "All attempts at core courses are used in the calculation of your core average."

dyan 02-05-2013 04:35 PM

I wouldn't bother applying. You need like 70 something to even get considered. But that's just with my circle of friends.

Take a shot.. It doesn't really hurt I guess.

Good luck

That's really low for Sauder. Unless you started your own business, competed in the Olympics, built houses in sub-Saharan Africa, can speak 5 languages, travelled the world and are generally a very interesting person I wouldn't apply.

MeowMeow 02-05-2013 05:08 PM

Let's just say my friend with 76 avg didn't get in
But she got in with 78 later on

Nlkko 02-05-2013 08:15 PM

That is too low I think. Why do you want to be in Sauder anyways? It's a trap. :troll:

You can always victory lap your worst courses in a local college to a 80-90 average and then reapply. They would really be wowed by that. Being good all the time is not as equally appreciated as being bad and having the mentality to get back up.

I think this was the advice that I gave you last summer when you mentioned transferring to Sauder.

I've seen a lot of people who couldn't get into Sauder from highschool say they want/will transfer into Sauder later but most of them don't make it in the end. I don't want to discourage you, but please be prepared to work your ass off. Good luck.

Frankly speaking, I wouldn't apply for a transfer this year with 55~60% grades and I would strongly advise you to step up for game from now on. I know marks are not everything about university but GPA that low will do close to nothing for you in the end. Grades determine your chances for internships, professional grad schools, full-time employment etc.. Perhaps Sauder is not the problem you should be thinking about right now.

Energy 02-05-2013 09:47 PM

Yeah, if you wanted to get into Sauder why are you slacking? Boggles the mind.

kcl38 02-05-2013 09:57 PM

I have an interview tomorrow for a startup but realized I have no dress clothes at my dorm with me. Interview is in Gastown though, so I'm just going to go full hipster and hope it works out.

GGnoRE 02-05-2013 10:02 PM

^ haha I find startup companies are a little less formal about clothing because they are usually a much smaller team but I don't know about "full hipster". Do you mean as close to semi-casual as possible?

kcl38 02-05-2013 10:07 PM

No I really meant I have nothing I could consider semi-casual. No shirts, cardigans, or blazers. Might have to stop in at H&M and pick up a blazer and then return it..

GGnoRE 02-05-2013 10:15 PM

You might send the interviewers the wrong message by showing up in casual clothing. First impressions play a huge role in interviews and under-dressing might hurt you in that aspect. Clothes aside, good luck with the interview.

Make sure not to spill anything on it if you do that lol.

And good luck!

Like others have said, I wouldn't even both with the application. Even if you're in Sauder, you need to maintain a minimum of 65% within your core courses to stay in, so if your avgs are already lower than that, I highly doubt they'll even look at your application twice. I know they said they'll use all attempts at core courses to calculate your average, but I guess you can try to cheat the system but taking those core courses and all transfer courses at a different college, work your ass off, and don't submit a transcript from your old college with the low grades on it. I doubt they'll check at every college to see if you've attended

Akinari 02-06-2013 01:25 PM

I'm actually on academic probation right now, based on my first term average which is 51% thanks to me epic failing PSYC101 by A LOT  So I'm really trying to hone in on my grades this term.

Depending on the job, I wouldn't worry too much. If they want you, chances are they'll hire you if you do well in the interview.

i.e. I got hired at Toyota wearing black skinny jeans and a trenchcoat, full blown hipster.

Thought they'd put in your grade percentage-wise as 45% if you fail a course...damn those PSYC profs are cruel..

Akinari 02-06-2013 03:22 PM

At a midterm review lecture for POLI100 and man the TA is a joke. Prof told us 2-3 sentences on short answer is more than enough. TA said she'd mark tougher because "some people write much more than 3 sentences and raise the bar higher so we have to mark harder."

Seriously, what the fuck? The moment she said that, half the lecture hall stood up and left.

MeowMeow 02-06-2013 03:33 PM

hate those keener ta's

Interview went well, since the founder of the startup is a student too she didn't really dress up either. Pulled a "okay, now you interview me" which I usually hate doing but we had a good discussion.

And for people that took Psych 208, has Dr. Wehr lectured about cancer before? He was saying so many dumb things about it today, including "cancer is technically the native state of the cell so we should all have it" and "Genetically modified foods often use the genetic material from viruses which means we're giving ourselves the virus by eating them which causes cancer." :fulloffuck:
