I'd recommend having sweeper on the list even if it's your last choice. Because if worst comes to worst, you can always transfer departments the next year if you are unhappy. And also, I wouldn't recommend working for the external contractors which are mainly the food stands that come into PNE to set up a stand, because their hours are very unreasonable and long.

Best job I ever had when I was a teen was being a valet. Make sure you know MT and AT and all you need is an N.

I've driven every car imaginable and the tips ARE insane. I've driven almost all the Canucks vehicles and ran into a few celebrities like the Rock and Nickelback. Tips alone on a regular 6 hours shift was minimum $100 on top of the min hourly wage.

This was before the Barwatch and the strict driving and drinking law though. The tips aren't as good but I am sure it's not bad for someone that is still in high school.

Is it worth all the time spent on learning how to drive MT

MT isn't all that hard, I think making 10.25/hr + decent tips is worth learning a useful skill.

Looking for a job lately too. The job market is mostly general labour, if its not, then you need some sort of certification or outstanding qualities. Been a sales and I like to talk to people but not a lot of places hiring around home in Richmond. Probably have to look harder and maybe in Van as well

As a valet?
Airport, Hotels, Restaurants, etc. CinCin, Joe Fortes, Italian Kitchen, Cardero's, Seasons. I'm not sure which still do valet, other members can confirm.
Try craigslist too.

Why not? I was making $100-$200 a night in tips and you get to drive nice cars and meet celebrities. You drive a short distance too since the parking lot is like usually underground or a couple blocks away from the restaurant.

A regular shift is 6-12am...6 hours shift...$8/hr plus tips...that works out to be $25-$40/hr. Please keep in mind that this was 5/6 years ago BEFORE the strict drinking and driving and Barwatch laws though. It's not as lucrative but I think you can still easily make $20/hr with tips though.

You can apply at Meridian Valet or 5th Ave. They are the two biggest valet companies in Vancouver. Meridian hires ANYONE with a license almost...I didn't even get an interview and went right into the orientation the first meeting lol

Is it too late to apply for a summer job, which would go throughout the year? I'm going to UBC this year and I need a job, but I just don't know where to start at all.

Thanks
I've been a dishwasher for roughly 5-6 weeks now, but during the past 2 weeks my head chef assigned me to train other co-workers & to teach them my methods. I've been doing less of that and more of prepping/portioning for the line/fry cooks. Also cooking the rice, mashed potatoes, bacon, etc
Evolving into a prep chef
Granted, dishwashing is a shitty, heavy, & shameful job, but as a part-time high school job it isn't too bad

^ That's pretty much standards back to my working days...
You're gonna be most likely a "kitchen helper" for now
Wait until you promote to meat/seafood prep list lol... It doesn't sound hard but it's a lot of work to do.
Is the head chef, Chantel still working there? and Sous Chef, James? Not the co-owner...
