my service was slow af as well. like 12 mbs slow when i pay for 25 with the old extreme package.. there were times where it was at 2-5 mbs.... Called and was told i had to replace my 8 yr old cable modem. AND to do that.. I had to get with their current internet plans.
Picked up my new modem and now im enjoying 30 mbs as of now... we will see how long that lasts.

Anyone know if it's possible to start a class action lawsuit against Shaw?
My internet usually drops down to 500Mbps or less after 6-7PM every day. Been going on for more than a year. Paying for 25Mbps service, one would expect to get that level of service at all times of the day.
Also, Telus only provides 6Mbps DSL in my are so there's no competition.
Shaw just keeps selling and selling, getting more people on the network node, but not upgrading their hardware to keep up the level of service that users pay for.

Not possible. Any of Shaw's internet package you pay for is only a guarantee of UP TO that certain speed (25Mbps, in your case). The agreement does not say they can provide a CONSTANT speed of 25Mbps. The best they can do is send a tech over to your residence to optimize your connection. But it sounds more like the exchange node in your neighborhood is overloaded (meaning most of your neighbors are on Shaw and are using their service the same time as you are).

which area is this? and did u actually call in and complain every time this happens? i sure hope u did so they can make note of the issue and actually look into it. they're not gonna do anything abt it if they dont know there is an issue.

This is in Coquitlam. I have called and I've gotten refunds twice now. They said it's a known issue and they are working on fixing it. Apparently waiting on government for permission to upgrade the node. Sounds like BS to me, but anything is possible.
Actually it's not bs, I'm not totally sure on the process but I believe bc hydro owns those poles, so any work that needs to be done on the poles needs permission granted by them first. Also I do believe city hall needs to grant permission as well, n it's usually the waiting for permission process that takes the longest. It's not like hey the nodes saturated, let's hang another piece of equipment up that pole tomorrow.

The equipment doesn't go on the telephone pole. It goes in big grey boxes called SAI boxes if I'm not mistaken.
Telephone poles are used to run the wires from the box to the house. Perhaps they are waiting on permission to add another box with more equipment? Either way, a year and a half wait if BS.
I also doubt they're in much of a hurry to improve service considering there is no real competition in the area.

Has anyone gotten a solid amber light on their modem? This never happen to me before..internet was slow yesterday and kind of slow today. I called/online chat and they said it's normal for the amber light or switch to a different channel (which I've done numerous times and it's VERY annoying)

Are you using the Cisco modem DPC3825 modem?
green light means data transfer up to 1000Mbps
orange light means data transfer up to 100Mbps
