Microsoft Productivity Future Vision

how the future could apparently look like

bloodmack 10-28-2011 03:37 AM

looks pretty boring.. hopefully ill be dead by then.

asian_XL 10-28-2011 04:31 AM

non sense, everything will be apple or android

Zyzz 10-28-2011 07:01 AM

I hate how every "future visions" videos I have seen overwhelm us with glass displays and touch screen. I seriously don't need a piece of glass device spamming every kind of information that I don't need in every wall of my house.

almost all of those glass devices won't even work properly because there is no room to place the capacitance, microcontrollers, and transistors. So much bull crap that are only believable to people with non-engineering degrees. Also rofl at a piece of glass phone. The only feasible device is probably the 3-D monitor used by the guy in the office.

Leopold Stotch 10-28-2011 09:23 AM

i think that would take some time to get used to that, that's a lot of information shown at once, none of which looked too generic to be for wide usage by people.

tiger_handheld 10-28-2011 10:40 AM

in 1987 people thought we'd be living like the jetsons in 2007. are we?

FerrariEnzo 10-28-2011 12:13 PM

LMAO... i wonder how many times their programs failed or windows crashing on them while make this video!

Gary Oak 10-28-2011 03:33 PM

in the future everything will have a screen on it :suspicious:

rsx 10-28-2011 05:13 PM

Why am I watching people work? wtf. Terrible video. I hate it.

Nope. Doable. You'll get pretty close even with present day technology.

Also I mean this in the nicest possible way but from your post you definitely don't have an engineering degree =p

+1 to this.
I lol'd at the guy playing the guitar's image at the subway station. Isn't the whole point to play LIVE in front of an audience?

2damaxmr2 10-28-2011 08:23 PM

No more blue screen of death? :p

....right..... care to enlighten us how you would design such a device? Nice post with zero source or ideas backing. Useless.

!YaoShi 10-28-2011 09:29 PM

I see the accountant in Batman Dark Knight. LOL.

The transparent display is easy enough, Samsung's even got AMOLED ones. Google it.

Offload the processing to a remote source. Stream your touch input data out through a wireless uplink while you stream the display data in.

For power - again, think wireless. Look up resonant inductive coupling. There was group out of UBC that got it up to 82% efficient using a 4-coil inductive link for a biomedical application. So run a receiver coil around the edge of the device.

So now you're left with requirements for an RF transceiver, the display controller, and the touchpanel controller. At my work we put SoC's on our boards with dual core MPU's, display controllers, camera controllers, memory controller, DSP's, comms processor etc, + the LPDDR2 memory packed into a 12x12mm package footprint. Qualcomm manages to pack an additional WLAN/GPS/BT into their SoC's at about the same footprint. So how big do you think a chip with just an RF transceiver, display and touchpanel controllers, and a couple on-die LDO's, inductors and caps needs to be? 3x3mm I'd say.

So. Grab some Gorilla Glass. Sandwich the display and the capacitive touchpanel between. Run the power coil around the edge. Put the SoC in the corner. Frost the edges of the glass.

Done.

in for the future porn

RenoMan 10-29-2011 10:30 PM

future would suck if you had no arms

TRD Rs200 10-30-2011 12:51 AM

that's if we pass 2012

Gridlock 10-30-2011 10:49 AM

This from the folks who's current tab computers are twice the cost of the ipad, weigh more and are not intuitive.

From a company that has been in the mobile phone market for years, and has barely made a dent.

Who's search engine is pretty, but no one really uses unless they don't change the default options.

No one cares about windows anymore. It's alright, no one cares about OSX either, but its not Apple's bread and butter anymore.

dignatas 10-30-2011 10:55 AM

see through fridges? WHY CAN'T WE FUCKING HAVE THAT RIGHT NOW ROFL

brb patenting some shit

Geoc 10-30-2011 10:56 AM

Microsoft pulling that kind of technology off? :fuckthatshit:

Microsoft implementing something that is seamless and not clunky? :fuckthatshit: :fuckthatshit: :fuckthatshit: :fuckthatshit: :fuckthatshit: :fuckthatshit: :fuckthatshit:

You know, for years we've seen things that make the fridge the internet hub of the kitchen.

Wow! seemless inventory of the fridge contents! An internet enabled white board for messages!

This: LG APPLIANCES : INTERNET REFRIGERATOR

You know what? I want my fridge to keep my food cold. End of story.

Done.

^ this...

this consumer processor war is about to end soon once all our network (mobile and terrestrial) speeds catch up and everything is processed off site.

jackmeister 10-30-2011 11:41 AM

everything is a very thin, no-bezel version of an iPad, iPod Touch, or an iPhone w/ amazing net speed.

doesn't seem like its that far off in the future.

trip 10-30-2011 11:49 AM

seems cool now.. wait until everything red rings or blue screens on you

:fuckthatshit:
