reading a few articles and suggest that u2412m is better in price and for development.

Since a lot of devices and monitors can't produce the colours like the u2410 its not worth it.
I guess depending what your developing though.

noTirl 04-17-2012 12:48 PM

Id go with the u2412m for gaming, movies, and general use. From what Ive read the u2410 is more so for people who actually will use it to its full potential of photo editing and stuff like that. I actually have the u2410 and am planning to purchase the u2412m as a 3rd monitor in the future since its not worth the extra $100 for what i do.

TheTank 04-18-2012 07:37 AM

edit: no longer $269, sale was only for yesterday :(

PornMaster 04-19-2012 08:48 AM

the u2410 for $399 is tempting

trancehead 04-19-2012 06:05 PM

dell days of deals here as pornmaster is referring to
wont get cheaper than 399 w/o coupons i believe

DELL Dell - UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor : Computer Components | Dell Canada

Yeah, I looked around online and didn't see any other options at that price range, especially since Dell has the U2412M for $329 right now. Even on some of the photo forums, they're saying that the U2412M has good color accuracy compared to the U2410, which is just slightly better and you'd have to try hard to notice.

So for an extra $100, you'd get a HDMI in and a card reader, neither of which really matter to me so I ordered a U2412M. I'll let you guys know how it is when I get it. Heck, if I don't like it, I'm pretty sure I can get my money back selling it and buy a U2410. :)

So how's it been?

asian_XL 04-19-2012 10:26 PM

the monitor definitely needs extra calibration. The colour is awful when I first bought it.
The mode (gaming, text, entertainment) did not really help much.

ddr 04-20-2012 07:19 AM

which one? the 2410 or 2412? the 2412 i got made little difference after i calibrated it, i'll say that the color temp was a bit cool from factory. what calibrator are you using?

SilveRx 04-20-2012 10:39 AM

What monitor would you recommend for a daily gamer? and is there a difference in lcd/led in computer monitors?
thanks

noTirl 04-20-2012 10:47 AM

The price premium for the u2410 isnt worth it for gaming. Go with the u2412

Ronin 04-20-2012 11:01 AM

Colors don't quite have the punch you'd expect out of the box. Download a calibration profile if you don't have a color calibration tool.

Otherwise, no complaints. Would be nice if it had a few more bells and whistles but at this price, it's a great IPS screen. Very happy with it.

DELL Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor : Computer Components | Dell Canada

U2412 is $269 right now. That's a heck of a deal.

PornMaster 05-02-2012 01:31 AM

It was 269 yesterday as well.

Got it :)

check other thread lol

Vansterdam 05-02-2012 04:11 AM

289 now

PornMaster 05-17-2012 08:27 AM

Received the dell u2412m yesterday.

After calibrating and using it for an entire day

10/10 for this monitor!

Everything on my old monitor looks like shit now

ForbiddenX 05-17-2012 06:42 PM

Is it worth it to get the 5 year protection for the de? Ive been waiting for this and 269 is a good deal for me.

Nvm just ordered without ir

Ronin 05-17-2012 07:53 PM

Don't bother. In 5 years, just buy a new monitor. We'll have 30" IPS 3D 0.00001ms refresh rate 4800x3000 7.4 billion color 1mm thick LCDs for $269 by then.

Extended warranty is just a cash grab for most companies, especially at the retail level.

twitchyzero 05-18-2012 07:58 PM

tons of people are still hanging on to their 5 year old dell IPS
it seems you get either a defective unit out of the box or it's good to go for a long time...i dunno about LED backlit ones but the CCFL ones after few years of usage takes a while to warm up apparently.

but yeah I hope we'll have affordable retina display IPS 30" in a few years :P

Yup. CCFL takes some time to warm up. I noticed it on my CCFL screens. The LED is instant.

got mine in 2006 and its still my main monitor

VV84 05-29-2012 11:05 PM

I've had my DELL 24 inch since 2007 and it's been rock solid so I'd say go with the Dell. Also i've used my buddies 24 and 30 inch IPS and they are just amazing.

trancehead 05-30-2012 12:23 AM

whats amazing about dell is that they are using panels from LG (the u2410 and u2412m)

and LG is considered a lower tier brand in korea

TheTank 05-30-2012 01:15 AM

ive had my 2412M for almost 2 weeks now, it's been calibrated and it's great! now i just need a 27" or 30" IPS to go along with my 2412M and my 52" TV

ForbiddenX 05-30-2012 08:49 AM

Got my monitor yesterday!

What are you guys using to calibrate it?

ddr 05-30-2012 09:54 PM

spyder 3 pro
