LOL halarious post and I agree with most points. Over the years, I've come to accept hot pot as a once in awhile type thing and my fav is still the little fat sheep one on alexander road~
But I didn't even know about this place, I will definately be trying it out as Richmond parking is AZZZZ.

While it could be a possibility for some of the shadier places, I really doubt it for the better known cafes that have been up and running for years. Quote:

Some of the other stuff - which is just deep fried, etc, isn't the greatest.

Does anyone have any anidoctal evidence at least that the resturant using cash to under report taxes?
The only personal experience I had was the fact that they preferred cash because it allowed them to pay a lot of their workers under the table (as a result of many of them being illegal immigrants in canada).

All good? Awesome. Thanks for posting. | I respect your opinions. Thats about it.
as for hotpot
i prefer to do it at home and save some money
In my mind, hotpot is a great way to gather friends and just chill, why go to AYCE and be rushed when I can sit at home or someone's place and just have a good time

The best hotpot is at home with your friends, buying the quality meat at great prices and "experimenting" with the soup broth :P.
I always felt like hotpot places markup their prices considerably. You are basically paying out of your ass for raw meat.

at the end of the day, its tough to put a price on a lengthy family hotpot or with friends
I find it has a slightly different feel when its hotpot compared to a regular dinner

No thanks. If you can’t man up to pay taxes, like hell I’m going to support your bullshit restaurant.
Regardless, not my scene, but to all those who are into it, enjoy! I just didn’t get the cash only thing. | actually when you eat at a dirty chinese place in richmond that is cash only, it's assumed that what you're eating is probably not good for you and the sanitary conditions are crap. You eat it because you don't really care.

I am glad someone finally pointed out the asian "cash only" nonsense.
For small purchases like food courts, fine whatever. But if you're charging $20 per person, you should be accepting my damn credit card-- or at least my debit card.

How sure are you about this? I passed by hkyk a couple days ago and they were still open...so did they close their "doors" officially as of today? Hkyk was known to run from debt from suppliers and wages of the employees in the 90's so that's why they moved to richmond to open its doors here. Quote:

If they are doing it because they are scamming to not pay taxes (as it was suggested), then I have a problem. If a company is scamming the tax man, I can see them doing other things under the table or unregulated, such as their food handling and prep. If you are into tax evasion, what’s a little improper food storage to save a few bucks on cost and refrigeration?
I've worked in enough restaurants and have seen enough kitchens that I wouldn’t clean dishes in let alone eat food that was prepped in to stay the fuck away if a company isn’t totally on the up and up.
Just my personal opinion. I see a relationship in cutting corners in some things leading to cutting corners in others. Restaurants are not an easy way to make a buck. When you start looking for ways to save a few dollars, it’s amazing what standards are easily tossed out the window.
Again, just my opinion, stuff whatever you like it into your mouth. | you've worked in the industry before..not sure why you would find it surprising that asian restaurants have worse sanitation standards than their western counterparts.
and seriously...the argument in here over whether greek or korean food sucks more
some things are just acquired taste...just because you dont like it doesn't mean it's garbage.

This one? What should I order so I am not eating the "sweet and sour pork" version of Greek food.
Hot pot is good.

youvetsi. It's like a greek stew/baked dish with orzo pasta lamb or beef and topped with mizithra cheese. Although the cheese is pricey most just do parmasan. Traditional ones are cooked in clay pots. I remember I was making it at home one day (I love this dish... its home cooking at its finest) and my father was having total authority over it. It's a "village dish" something that everyone knows how to make but takes alot of effort to make. But once its made GOD DAMN.
