holy shit i can't believe it HKYK is closed, i might have to ask them next time im i pop back to HK since we know the owners quite well in HK Quote:
I respect your opinions. Thats about it.
as for hotpot
i prefer to do it at home and save some money
In my mind, hotpot is a great way to gather friends and just chill, why go to AYCE and be rushed when I can sit at home or someone's place and just have a good time

youvetsi. It's like a greek stew/baked dish with orzo pasta lamb or beef and topped with mizithra cheese. Although the cheese is pricey most just do parmasan. Traditional ones are cooked in clay pots. I remember I was making it at home one day (I love this dish... its home cooking at its finest) and my father was having total authority over it. It's a "village dish" something that everyone knows how to make but takes alot of effort to make. But once its made GOD DAMN. | i see the persians taught the greeks how to make Briyani like they taught spain to make Paella |

There are also electric hot pot "machines", its basically a one piece stove that'd be plugged into a wall, you'd have to look in more Asian places for that. They're not that great though, because you're restricted to using that same stupid pot and most of the time it'll be too small |

i actually heard they got good roast lamb. I have put some serious thought into opening a restaraunt... the sad part is people in this city dont have good taste in food so they would still line up to stephos for 12 pounds of rice over some real greek food that costs more.

Why is this thread talking about greek food? Or is it because greek food is just as bad as hot pot?

That looks effin delicious!
I apologize on behalf of the idiots without taste, there are tons of those. I've have stepho's wasn't impressed.
The best roast lamb I have had was at Sympatico in kits. Any other suggestions?
As for hot pot, I'm chinese and cheap. My friends are too.
The best place we have found for hot pot meat is actually a korean meat shop.
Han Kook Meats Han Kook Meat
It's on Kingsway near Boundary. Cheap and good quality. This has been our go-to place for hot pot for years.
And yes, they have lamb |

buddys family had a couple greek restaurants in the past; from their experience i'd say dont do it :P
they ended up making a pizza joint and "greeked" the pizzas up, charged a premium but, ended up being pretty successful with it paid off their debts collected an adequate amount sold the place and are now retiring in greece
friend is still stuck being a cook at someone elses restaurant in greece though and is stressed the hell out since he's got a kid now and there is no economy over there

I would never open a restaurant for money, not in a city like Vancouver.
There isn't enough of a collective appreciation for taste in this city, at least not with a decent ratio compared to the number of restaurants here.
The only reason I would serve food here is either for my own amusement or as a retirement job only to kill time and only aim to break even.
If I was rolling in the money, I would like to open a place here to show people how things ought to be done. Ethical bar, kick ass food at a decent price, wide selection of liquor. Hoping I win the lottery one day and can show Vancouver what we are missing.

i honestly wanted to hosted an RS greek food night, but I don't really have a home. lol.
And pretty much what styling red said.
Some family friends of mine own Niagra Falls in ladner and if you guys in richmond odnt mind going through the tunnel it actually has some pretty go faux greek food. Apparently the pizza is open.
Whenever I eat at greek resteraunts I only eat calamari anyways... no pilafi, and only greek salad.
Once you have calamari the grilled way with a little bit of olive oil lemon and oregeno...
way tooo good.
Yeah I'm usually pretty critical about food and stuff but thats cause a few of us on revscene actually only care about eatting good food. Best feeling in the world. I make a habit of it of always eatting at a new place every week. Also when I eat in richmond I order in Canto.

I have to say I agree with Majin, I'm chinese (all be it very white washed) and I hate hotpot and find it horrid. Different folks, different strokes.
