Good read........
I agree with italian kitchen being a bit of a waste though. They have basically the same food at trattoria for about 3/4 the price. Although, its glowbal, and they usually share a common trait. The menu always looks impressive, but the food always is just fine.

Yeah, I went to West too. Saw they had an insane list of openings on Opentable. Their food was not worth $38. The first entree was just Italian "dumplings". The third entree was just a small piece of pork cheek with a not-so-generous cous cous on the bottom.

The ginger and carrot appy soup was good though, and same goes with the trout salad. Dessert is a typical apple pie placed in a fancy way, or the buttermilk cake which isn't much at all.

The drinks are phenomal as always. I love West's drinks. I highly recommend the Old Fashion.

Overall, DOV at West is not that good. It may even make you think West does not have good food. You're much better off going to the regular menu.

That's exactly what I had last night lol. Gf had the same, except she had the salad instead. Can't remember the name of it but it was basically half a head of lettuce with ranch sauce, tomatoes and bacon. Tasted better than expected. Bill came to $85 incl drinks and tip

Went to Cork and Fin last week and was not impressed.

Waiter forgot to give us bread, we had to ask for it; the food was meh, oysters and clams was not cleaned thoroughly and had sand in them still.

^

I am shocked. I looked at the menu for Cork and Fin, and was extremely interested.

I know, the menu was what attracted me too and Urbanspoon had so many good reviews. Are you still going to give them a try or pass?

C Restaurant is a good choice for the good seafood and great view of the waterfront in False Creek. -went there for Dine Out last year.

Restaurants/Nightlife - Vancouver, British Columbia

Drinks are overpriced. Girlfriend ordered a cocktail, it was pretty much grapefruit juice and a shot of whatever sweet fruity liquor for $10.75

$38 gets you a miso soup, 4 pieces of sushi, 3 pieces of cheap tempura, a few slices of two different kinds of fish, and a green tea creme brulee.

Now the food was actually very good, but I'm not one for pretentious fancy foods. I was still very hungry afterwards. Seriously, after a ~$150 bill, it felt like I just ate a salad.

The girlfriend really liked the place and the food. I guess that's all that really matters.

Will probably not go back.

Bistro Sakana is probably one of my least fave sushi restos I've ever been to. Great patio during the summer, but so not worth the price. I can't believe it was named one of the best sushi restos in Vancouver by...Erin Ireland? whoever it was that did the piece for the Vancouver Sun.

Haven;t been for DOV but a really great little place. Quattro restos have always been a hit for me, and if you decide not to do DOV try their pasta share platter. AMAZING.

miss_crayon 01-25-2012 04:07 PM

Did Joe Fortes on the weekend and it was great! We were there for dins in November and I had a terrible time due to the service and my food was ice cold but I decided to have one of our DOV's there since it was a good deal and I really do love this place. Glad I decided to give them another chance because they totally made up for it.

We ordered off the menu for some extra appies but the DOV choices were quite nice. He ordered the salad, I got the prawn cocktail (SO good and SO fresh), steak for both (cooked to a perfect medium rare), he got the lava cake and I got the tiramisu.

Got the Keg this Saturday (can't wait for my BILLY MINERS PIE--GAHHH SO GOOD), Cork and Fin on Tuesday and Sip on Saturday.

bcrdukes 01-25-2012 04:20 PM

Aw only 1 entree to choose from lol.

kitsune 01-26-2012 01:41 AM

Five Sails..
The food was pretty good but like mentioned previously.. Portions suck.
They give you time in between to settle.. And i felt somewhat filled at the end of dinner.. But thats probably because i drank a grande cup of tea just before dinner.. Lol
Service as mentioned again was top notch. Very relaxed yet they treat you like gold.
Not sure if id go back, but no regrets either. :)
Going to Keg later this week! Yum!

Still creek. I called last week but all their reservations are full. However, we're going to try our luck and wait since the hostess said they only book 40% of the resto for DOV customers.

BaoTurbo 01-26-2012 12:07 PM

Anyone know if there are still spots for Keg Granville Island Saturday night?
