too many stupid drivers out thr, specially summer. due to low profile (size and noise ) of scooter, its less safer than motorcycle.

This and I've always thought that there should be some sort of mandatory course before you're allowed to ride these scoots. I think in Que, you have to take a 7 hr course, then pass an exam online before you're certified to ride. Not a bad idea, keep course and tests simple but make sure people get some basics.

Not sure if you made up your mind yet, but there is a 2007 CBR125R on BCSB right now for $1500. That's a killer deal IMO, you'll have to take your Class 6 though. I think it's a good entry to two wheel motoring.

I started on one of those and it's super fun to commute on, really cheap on insurance and gas and has enough pep to get you out of sticky situations in the city. Ahhh, just thinking about rowing through gears makes me want to pick one up myself!

thats what a class 7 license is for. lol.

Great that you are experienced so if there was a mandatory test, you'd pass with flying colours. BUT there are lots of people who are just getting into it, that's who I was referring to, not you specifically. As an experienced rider, don't you think that it would be helpful for the noobies?

Specialized Turbo e-bike is too fast and furious for the western world (video)

While not quite the fastest commercially available e-bike in the world as some have suggested (as far as we can tell, that claim belongs to a DIY kit out of Taiwan by a company called Cyclone), the Specialized Turbo is still a speedy little beast. In fact, it's fast enough to find itself on the wrong side of the law both here in the US and across most of Europe. The 250 W rear hub motor is powerful enough to get this guy up to about 28 MPH, or 8 MPH over the legal limit here in America. It's the other features, though, that make this guy particularly interesting. The frame has integrated LED head and tail lights, regenerative breaking and the 342 Wh battery can be juiced in just two hours from an outlet. There's even a backlit display that lets you monitor charge and assistance level, as well as standard bike computer stats like speed, distance and time. Oh, and it even supports ANT+ for wirelessly connecting with your existing accessories. The Specialized Turbo is expected to land in some European nations in May for €5,499. Check out the video after the break to see it in action.

i dont know what they oculd teach you that would be any different from riding a bicycle.

I've personally got a Ruckus myself and I love it. First got a ride on my co-workers Ruckus 2 years ago and I fell in love right after that. Couldn't resist smiling when I got off that thing. I've tested other 49cc scooters out there. There are faster scooters out there but I love the look of the Rucks.

If ya live in Richmond gimme a holler if you wanted a test ride or something. It's one of things you gotta ride it to believe it. I can't complain about it going slow or whatever its an A to B commute for dirt cheap. Gas and insurance is hella reasonable considering the prices for gas and insurance for cars these days.

Gluck finding a scooter! :D

one thing that i see often is that their lane positioning is terrible. i always see people on scooters riding lane position number 2 (center) even when it is oil and greasy as hell. one abrupt movement can cause an accident. the main differences between a full blown 1000cc sportbike and a scooter is basically the faster speed and a manual transmission, everything else especially road sense is the same in the city when going 50km/h!

how much are one of those? Wouldn't you need class 6/7 cause it's over 49cc?

I believe you would need a Class 6/7 due to the fact that it is a manually operated transmission. As per ICBC's Definition:

I like how sleeper that bike is. It's way too expensive, though.

I had the chance to ride one of these last month

Costs about the same as a lightly used econobox but it fucking rips lol, does effortless wheelies thanks to that electric motor.

Strictly a rich man's toy though, not for the commuter/penny pinching alternative by any means

Friend of mine has a Ruckus and it's fantastic. The shop I buy my glasses from is owned by a guy with a pimpin white Ruckus. I'm thinking of getting one this summer too.

DO you know anyone local who has one?

Was thinking of ordering an optibike for this summer but that seems to be a much better bike overall. (80k/hr + 2h charge time!!)

I can definitely look into sourcing one for you. IMO my biggest concern is leaving one parked on the street and having it stolen. Genuinely costs a pretty penny ~14k iirc :/
But yeah its pretty fast and will probably outrun an entry level sport bike at city speeds

Wrong, they are legal to drive on any public road, they follow the exact same laws as pedal bikes.
