Japan hasn't made anything truly ground breaking for awhile, the last time Japan made everyone sit up and pay attention was the LFA V10, which is over a decade old now.
The 2GR is a good engine, not great, just like the 2.0T in the CTR.
I'd argue even the B58 is only great because Toyota had stuck their fingers in it due to the BMW Supra. The first iterations of the B58 aren't as good as the revisions we are seeing now in the Supra and M340.

that b58 is a real tower of power. Kinda reminds me of BMW of old days.
Not sure about how reliable it is, but its internals seem quite stout compared to the old N series engine.

B58 2018+ is a great engine... forged crank and rods, lots of improvements detailed out by Toyota to BMW, pretty much addressed every weak point on the engine.

In one of SavageGeeses' livestream or reviews, they were told Toyota reviewed every single part in the B58 to make sure it meets their reliability standard during the design process for the Supra.
(they then pointed out how Toyota supposedly went through the same process with the GR86 and didn't catch the oil starvation issue affecting the FA24s)

Then I remember I don't have the space or the time or an actual use for it when it's done lol.

I think you'd probably just heat soak a b58 if you were even able to get one into a GR86.

My rock sliders finally came in, after months of waiting for Megawatt to finish fabrication on a new batch.
Getting to work / obligatory shot of the S2000.
Done! (...8 hours later. turns out I had to iteratively modify and test fit both sides because it's still a new product and they're trying to figure out the deltas between bolt hole locations on various R1Ts over the production run)
I wasn't originally a fan of the kick-outs, but it is pretty functional: it actually kicks the vehicle away from a rock instead of smashing the bodywork. And anyway once I saw it on the actual truck I realized it works with the rear fender flaring too. Also nice to be able to step on it to access the bed.

Looks great! i think it adds a lot of pizzazz to the looks and is also quite functional. I added sidebars to our RX because it helps Spy Balloon get in and out of the SUV so they are quite good.

And yeah not only is it not standard, you can't even option rock sliders. You can get a Reinforced Underbody Shield (which I have), but to your point that is not a complete solution at all.
Also: when my mother-in-law came to visit, she struggled to get into the truck. She says "I thought you told me it can go low in a kneeling mode??" and I go "it IS. It's at the lowest setting already!!". Kind of a miss on Rivian's part for sure. Quote:

Hugely helpful, no doubt.
Btw I snapped the photo in front of the Apple store because of your comment in the other thread . Seemed right. Quote:

Btw re your pic of hauling flooring: I noticed slack in your tailgate support cable on the driver side, while taut on the passenger side. I have the same thing on mine. Is that actually normal? I tried to get that fixed under warranty but Rivian said it's supposed to be like that, which seemed suspect.

I also have doubts about typical BMW oil leaks in the long term.
