I thought everyone knew that basically every brand is owned by one of 4-5 large corporations? I mean, there's basically two pop manufacturers.

Also, corrected your spelling.

What's an "Illisusion"? :lol

SkinnyPupp 04-26-2012 12:06 AM

To see it visualized is intriguing to me. When you say "every brand" you might normally think "within one category". But this is pretty much every brand in everything, from food, to drinks, to cosmetics, to cleaners, and everything in between.

I'm not making a statement for or against it, it's just an interesting image

Can probably edit this some more, to have 1 person in the middle.

Berkshire Hathaway owns some of Coca Cola, Johnson and Johnson, Kraft, Proctor and Gamble, and Nestle. Won't be surprised if he had holdings in the other companies that are undeclared

The_AK 04-26-2012 12:10 AM

pretty cool to see how they're all connected

Oh yeah, I think it's amazing that so much of the world is controlled by so few. I just didn't think it was much of an illusion. I thought everyone knew that most brands are controlled by a handful of corporations. Doesn't anyone ever read the box their stuff comes in?

Some of the relationships between brands in the chart are interesting too like seeing how one company influences another that's owned by the same company.

AzNightmare 04-26-2012 01:19 AM

Yeah, I think most people know about how large companies owned a lot of sub companies, but when you actually see it in a visual chart
:fulloffuck:

Actually, there were a bunch in here that I didn't know of. Like Nestle owning L'OREAL.
So random.

I noticed A&W RootBeer belongs to KRAFT and PEPSICO? :suspicious:

It would be nice if someone found a chart like this for the auto industry too.

^ LOL, this one's confusing!

Does Toyota and Ford own a percentage of Mazda?

StylinRed 04-26-2012 01:32 AM

I was surprised by the nestle/loreal connection did a lil search found nestle holds a 29.7% stake the Bettencourt family (ones who started l'oreal) still owns the majority

Quote:

As at year end 2010:[1]

Breakdown of share ownership: 30.9% by the Bettencourt family, 29.7% by Nestlé, 1.9% treasury shares, 0.7% company savings plan, and the remaining 36.8% is public

Manic! 04-26-2012 02:15 AM

Not all of that chart is true. Rock Star is not owned by Pepsi and Monster is not owned by Coke they are just distributed by them. Also a lot of those companies were started by one person or a small group and later sold to a bigger company.

I don't know about right now but Ford did own a percentage of Mazda when I bought my Mazda 3, which shares some parts and technology with the Focus.

The newer Mazda3 shares it's chassis with the new Ford Focus, Mazda5, and several Volvos as well.

drunkrussian 04-26-2012 06:57 AM

i knew kraft was everywhere but disnt know they (apparently) own more brands fhan pepsi or p&g? also didnt know pepsi owned major chips manufacturers

TheNewGirl 04-26-2012 07:24 AM

What's even scarier is when you look at the charts like that for the media/news groups and start to think about all the implications of THAT.

pastarocket 04-26-2012 07:20 PM

The car industry family tree chart needs a bit of an update. Audi owns Ducati as of April 19th.

Yep, my Speed3's calipers are stamped "FoMoCo", which are the same calipers you'd find on a volvo S40/V50.

Teh Doucher 04-26-2012 08:23 PM

Don't forget, big tobacco "Phillip Morris" owns kraft.
