Metro Vancouver commuters might feel the pinch as they fuel up for their drive into work.
Gas prices at some pumps are nearing record highs and are expected to climb as demand increases in the spring and summer months.
According to gasbuddy.com the average price of a litre of gas at the pump today in Vancouver is 147.8 cents. That compares with the national average of 127.6 cents.
The highest gas price recorded so far this morning is 149.5 at pumps in Surrey and Coquitlam and 149.4 at many gas stations in Langley, Vancouver and Burnaby.
That's just shy of the record in the summer of 2008, when Metro Vancouver pump prices briefly topped $1.50 a litre as crude oil prices spiked to $150 a barrel.
Meanwhile, British Columbians will be paying more for gas this summer with a carbon tax increase. This July 1, the tax will go up by another 1.1 cents, bringing the total carbon tax on gasoline to 6.67 cents a litre.

Also oil companies are not paying $90 a barrel for oil when they have there own oil fields.

By july 1st, we will be paying 52 cents per litre in taxes alone for gas. That includes everything from Provincial, federal, carbon and some other miscellaneous taxes.

It's funny that Victoria has been holding firm at 131.9 for the past few weeks while Langford Costco and Chevron are undercutting each other forcing the price down to 123.9

Who do I believe? It seems "the experts" are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Global BC | Gas prices near $1.50 per litre, but experts say relief is coming
Anyone know the real cost of gas excluding taxes and levys added by local gov't

And we could add...the last time when gas prices hit record highs, the United States and Canada went into recession. I'm not saying its THE cause, but there is causality there.
We are too complacent in BC. We pay all these taxes on fuel, and have to pay tolls on bridges? At the very least, if we are going to have 'tax and spend' liberals, can they at least tax and spend? We seem to get "tax and stuff a jimmy up your oohoo" liberals.
Let's take a lesson from Quebec(oh, fuck me I just said that) and they get all pissed about raising tuition to meet the rest of Canada and go on a rage for 6 months...us? hey! its all good man...think of all those poor our pay checks get to help.
Fuck this shit. I'm angry.

Why don't you guys just head over there every now and then for gas? Its a lot cheaper than here and you can bring as many jerries as you want.
