Which eastern teams are your picks to make it the conference final?

Pittsburgh and Washington are my picks.

Tim Budong 05-06-2013 01:50 PM

That's the main issue... They aint taking responsibilty and using BS excuses like this nonstop. They need to stop worring about the other teams and worry about their BS.

That being said it's a little late night I think.

Geez, what team DOESN'T embellish?!

kwy 05-06-2013 01:58 PM

As a Canucks fan, I'm just sick of all this bullshit. All the excuses, the lack of consistency, the lack of results, the lack of motivation. We spend hundreds a year on Canucks merch and ridiculously overpriced tickets only to watch them lose. The least they can do for their fans is to put their hearts into it.

I'm gonna need the long off-season to cool off. In the meantime, I'm cheering for any other Canadian team to go far, as well as the Red Wings, who have always been my #2 team. I'll even be happy if the Isles go far..huge underdog, and they've been fighting hard so far this series.

Just heard this on the Team 1040 and it's so true: "you either have to be a high scoring team or tough to play against and the Canucks are neither.

During the off-season, Canucks are not the type of franchise that will clean house. Maybe AV will be fired to bring in a new voice, but they need to start refreshing the core. After next season, Sedins' contract ends. Do they get extensions? I can't see them being traded. It just seems its one of those things where they've been so good to the franchise and Gillis is loyal to them. Will be hard to bring in new talent if you don't have chips to trade with.

I think Roy and Raymond will go UFA and Luongo gets traded, but it will be tough to bring back core type players. They need to start stocking up first round picks. It is inexcusable that they didn't have a pick in the first 3 rounds of the 2010 draft. I understand you can't always draft the likes of what Detroit has in late rounds, but other teams have gotten lucky. The Canes drafted Justin Faulk in the 2nd round. Look at what rookies are doing for their respective teams like the Habs (Gallagher), Hawks (Saad). These guys weren't even fucking first round picks and they've developed very nicely. Gallagher was a 5th round pick, and Saad was taken 43th overall.

Whens the last time a low draft pick made the Canucks opening day roster? Granted Canucks have been a veteran team, they need new scouts.

We were able to grab Corrado in the 5th round.

I'm actually cheering for Sens if the Canucks are out. The team went through so much in injuries to their top guys yet they stay competitive. And Karlsson and Alfredsson are fucking awesome hockey players.

It's not just the Players or coaches with excuses.
Even our fans have excuses.
What's with the :QQ:ing about bad refs.
Every season, every series, fans are crying about the bad calls.
Suck it up, it goes both ways in the grand scheme of things,
we have embellishers too, and our special teams are terrible.
People are whining about irrelevant things.

Good teams find ways to win, and Canucks are incapable of that.
Which doesn't shock me at all, considering Canucks are only capable of getting a lucky goal and then trying to hold on for the 1-0 win.

So wonder one questionable call combined with Canucks' lackluster PK sends everyone complaining.
Seems like no one remembers about Canucks' inability to produce a single scoring chance (or sometimes even a shot) when they're on the PP.

:suspicious:

I like MAKAVELI's youtube channel and all, he compiles the best Canuck highlight videos I know of,
but the guy can be such a biased idiot sometimes. I must have called him out on one of his videos way back
(I don't actually remember if I did post anything), cause apparently I'm blocked
from posting anything on his videos, nor can I subscribe to his channel.

I hear what you're saying. But the Canucks has a pretty poor track record when it comes to developing rookies. You get a blue chipper like Hodgson and they simply don't get the minutes. And even if they get to stick around, they're playing 3rd or 4th line minutes. Can't think of many Canucks other than the Sedins that got special treatment (minutes played) in their development.

Harvey Specter 05-06-2013 03:06 PM

I think the biggest concern moving forward is how you build a team around a core of players who are aging. The other concern is the lack of any real talent in the farm system and how you beef the team up offensively which has been a concern since our cup lost and has never been addressed.

Than you have the issue with contracts that the Canucks have to dump e.g. Ballard, Booth and Lu. Whoever the GM is come next season will have to delicately maneuver themselves because a bad signing, bad trade or lack of signings could set the team back big time and we could get find ourselves in a permanent rebuilding phase like so many other teams in the league.

I disagree.

IMO, Kesler/Burrows/Bieksa/Hansen/Raymond/Edler/Tanev/Schneider were rookies at some point and was given ice time to develop.

It's just media likes to use Hodgson/Grabner/Shroeder as examples that they don't get enough ice time.

Then there are two sides on this topic. Offensive players like them requires ice time to develop vs these players are not defensive enough so they get less ice time.

And none of them you would consider a superstar. Kesler and Edler had potential at one point, but in recent years? Schneider's a possibility, who knows.

Canucks can draft a Sid Crosby equivalent next year and they still won't touch first line minutes until the Sedins retire.

JesseBlue 05-06-2013 03:53 PM

i have a feeling that for the return that we'll need/want, it'll be schneider that might be dealt...lack and cannata on the wings...

heck, i'd do that...

anyways, did anyone see volpatti's name pop up when hamhuis scored?

Tim Budong 05-06-2013 04:09 PM

I think this team can be "reworked"
Too soon for a rebuild

But if you want return for the future, you start this off season and have a canucks fire sale

iwantaskyline 05-06-2013 04:32 PM

Well the Sharks are a perfect example of a team who properly injected youth into their lineup. Look at thorton and marleau, both are into their 30's. Problem is we still suck at drafting.

I did...
Cause I have Roy in my pool, and I was thinking "wtf, that's Roy's assist"
Then I remembered Volpatti's not even with the Canucks anymore. lol

Lol not trying to be a dick but I turned on my iPad that I haven't used since game two and saw this. Found it funny.

spoon.ek9 05-06-2013 05:50 PM

lol, it's fine. for part of that game, i think we all saw the team that owned chicago prior to the playoffs. all we can do now is sit back and laugh, cry or a combo of both.

Tim Budong 05-06-2013 05:58 PM

Its fucking sad how I'm enjoying EVERY OTHER SERIES much more than my beloved Canucks

Watching the Rangers climb outta their hold right now has been fantastic.

OGCStrike 05-06-2013 06:10 PM

its sad to see every other team is fighting, (2-1 series) and canucks are down to 3-0 :QQ:

kristianhay 05-06-2013 06:35 PM

Blues up 2-0 on LA early, awe yeah.

Realistically, what do you guys think happens in the offseason?

Near guarantees to be gone, I'd think:

Booth, Ballard, Lu, Roy, Raymond, Weise, Ebbett, AV

Could be gone:

Edler, Bieksa, Kesler, Lapierre, Alberts, Gillis

I could see any of the above guys being packaged for something/let walk (if applicable). I don't see the Sedins being moved as they have NTC's. It will be an interesting summer.

Or...
AV gets fired.
Luongo gets traded for a bag of pucks.
Gillis once again says he can't find any suitable trades to shake up the rest of the team. So we call it a day.
(And bank on the new coach being a hero)

Something tells me I shouldn't be surprised if this happens...
