dont forget getzlaf and perry are UFA next year and sedins are aging?

kesler has a high chance to get thrown under the bus this year, same with mason raymond.

PornMaster 07-27-2012 02:39 PM

Raymond is already under the bus because he slipped and fell there

Man people like you are such pieces of shit online.

I didnt read this posted but Jakub Voracek was re-sign to a 4 year 4.25Mil a year Contract which i think is a mass overpayment. The guy has never hit past the 20 goal plateau yet and only hit 50 pts once. Makes Booth contract look like a steal.

Tobias Enstrom was re-sign to a 5 year 5.75Mil a year contract.

Blah_Teggie 07-27-2012 06:22 PM

So a lot of you are saying Doan wants too much money. I totally agree. He isn't worth 7.5. So realistically he's worth say around 6 mil. According to capgeek, that will make him the leagues 50th highest paid player. Sounds about right. So what you gotta ask yourself is this. Are we really gonna cheap out 1.5 mil for a guy who can greatly improve this team and lets be honest, 1.5 mil in todays NHL is nothing. Lets look at the facts, last year he led a superstar-less Coyotes squad to a division title and the 3rd round in the playoffs, had LA not been on fire, he could've gone to the finals and I like their chanes against NJ. So if he can do that on a team with no legit superstars, what can he do on a team with the Sedins etc?

RiceIntegraRS 07-27-2012 06:50 PM

Id rather overpay with picks and prospects to get Bobby Ryan than overpay to get an aging Shane Doan

Uh...

Ray Whitney = 24g, 53a = 77 pts
Radim Vrbata = 35g, 27a = 62 pts
Keith Yandle = 11g, 32a = 43 pts
Mike Smith = 38W, 18L, 10OTL, 2.21GAA, .930 SV%

Doan = 22g, 28a, 50pts

I wouldn't say they were a 'superstar-less' team.

Mike Oxbig 07-27-2012 07:17 PM

Doan does more than what it says on the score sheet. His leadership and class act is overrated anyways... for 7.5 mill :fuckthatshit:

Ronin 07-27-2012 07:52 PM

Doan's value extends beyond what he does on the scoreboard but still not worth $7.5m. That's ridiculous. I don't actually think he's worth more than $5m a year but I'd be willing to pay $6m in this market. $7.5m is just stupid. That's just shy of Parise's cap hit.

Mike Oxbig 07-27-2012 08:21 PM

lol might as well make a pitch for morrow from the stars, hes going to be playing on the 3rd line anyways

NHL

raymond + :troll:

cliffhanger33 07-28-2012 01:49 AM

6 mill for doan is good but unlikely. he's a great player and everythng the nucks need

Fappin 07-28-2012 03:53 AM

We offered Sundin 10m so I don't see what's wrong with offering Doan 7.5m :troll:

SkinnyPupp 07-28-2012 05:07 AM

Doan at 7.5 in THIS market is a lot more reasonable than Sundin at 10 in that market... what the fuck were they thinking? :fulloffuck:

AzNightmare 07-28-2012 06:18 AM

Already been discussed. It was actually Sundin at 8.6mil for ONE SEASON
vs Doan's 7.5mil for FOUR SEASONS

It actually makes a lot of sense why Sundin's deal was worth the risk, and Doan's isn't.

that they had cap room to spare and it cost them nothing but money?

spoon.ek9 07-28-2012 11:56 AM

I believe MG said from the beginning that that was meant to send a message to the rest of the league that the Canucks were serious about winning and serious about signing big names. And yes, it only cost us money and only for part of one season.

Obsideon 07-28-2012 05:00 PM

Don't forget that he brought invaluable experience and mentorship to the Sedins, Kesler, maybe Burrows and Edler, which basically had a trickle effect.
It's not up to me to say if it's true or not because I wasn't in the locker room but I'm pretty confident these boys wouldn't be the players they are now without a year playing with Sundin. Which, already stated above cost us NOTHING, his contract did not handicap us for future seasons and it's not like we needed the $10m to sign anyone else that year anyway.

Doan asking for 4-years at any price is ridiculous for Vancouver to nab him.

MG made a stupid move with Sundin. He offered him 20 million for TWO seasons. Sundin declined that. Had he accepted it, Canucks would have been royally fucked in terms of capspace the second year of that deal. Mike Gillis got lucky for his bonehead offer.

Bruins' Thomas backs company in gay marriage controversy

Tim Thomas is at it again.

Quote:

Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas made another political statement on his Facebook page on Thursday, supporting American sandwich chain Chick-fil-A.

The chain's owner Dan Cathy, has drawn plenty of backlash for funding organizations fighting same-sex marriage and was recently quoted saying he supported, "the biblical definition of the family unit."

"I stand with Chick-fil-A," wrote Thomas on his Facebook account.

"Chick-fil-A is privately owned by the Cathy family. The company president, Dan Cathy, drew the wrath of gay rights advocates and supporters when he made recent statements that some have alleged are anti-gay. Cathy told Baptist Press that the company was unapologetically in favor of traditional marriage. 'Guilty as charged,' he said. 'We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.' In a separate interview on the Ken Coleman Show - Cathy suggested that the nation could face God's wrath over the redefinition of marriage. I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,' Cathy said. 'I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about.'"

It's not the first time that Thomas has gone under the spotlight for making political statements. He was at the centre of controversy this past winter when he opted not to appear at the Bruins' White House visit hosted by U.S. president Barack Obama.

Thomas later explained his actions on his Facebook page and cancelled any media scrums if a question was asked regarding the incident.

Thomas, who already announced that he's taking a year off from playing hockey, has one year left on his current contract with the Bruins, which carries a $5 million cap hit for the 2012-13 season.

The 38-year-old went 35-19-1 with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage this past season. In the playoffs, he had a 2.14 GAA and a .923 save percentage. Boston lost in seven games to Washington in the first round.

Thomas won the 2009 and 2011 Vezina Trophy, and has a 196-121-45 record and 2.48 GAA in 378 career games with the Bruins. In 50 postseason games, he holds a 29-21 mark with a 2.07 GAA. He also won the 2011 Conn Smythe Trophy after leading Boston to its first Stanley Cup title since 1972.

Thomas's statement comes just months after teammate Zdeno Chara recorded a PSA for the You Can Play project and after Shawn Thornton said he would support a gay teammate.

"He isn't playing next year, which means he's not my teammate," a Bruins player who wished to be anonymous told WEEI.com. "Which means I don't have to react to his Facebook posts."

Files from WEEI.com were used for this report.

max i would want doan for is 2 years, and that's a bit of a stretch.

@walsha: Ads on jerseys will come to the NHL (like it is to NBA) owners want the revenue.
