Interesting that BlackBerry removed the trackpad for the Q10

I had a 9700 and the trackpad stopped clicking and stopped responding

Still, the Q10 isn't pulling me back to BlackBerrys yet

Seeing as the new Blackberries offer absolutely nothing new in terms of functionality compared to its current competitors, I'm really curious. I'll bite. I use both Android and BlackBerry, and have an iPad. The BlackBerry honestly has every right to exist with the other two - the previous gen handled email very, very well and I punch through 30 a day. Admittedly my Android phone wasn't top tier (It was an LG Optimus 2X) but all it was good for was playing some games, dicking around, having an HDMI port for my TV and being a battery hog. Oh and it NEVER gets updated and I don't want to bother rooting and installing a custom ROM. Gave it away to my parents and just stuck with my three year old Berry for everything.

iOS is very robust and generally error-free, but its UI is as dull as any legacy BB by this point. No flash, can't run apps on background, no expandable memory, no HDMI, no support for future hardware in NFC, very overpriced, need to jailbreak to really get the most out of it.... etc.

The biggest things for me in the Z10 is A) "true" multitasking - everything runs in the background, I can play a song on youtube and switch to an email I'm writing and then effortlessly switch to the calendar and B) excellent virtual keyboard. I type fine on the iPad, but none of the touchscreen phone keyboards have served me well so far. If the predictive text programming in this phone is as good as the reviews have been saying it is, it's a solid buy from me. Oh, and C) expandable memory, because it's frankly fucking retarded that in 2013 I have to pay an extra 50% of the value of the phone just to get more storage space. HDMI and NFC are just bonuses.

App-wise, Skype I think is the most important app that they MUST deliver on - I think it's one that will make or break this phone. I guess Instagram is pretty important too but I never understood the appeal even when I had an Android (maybe because the camera sucked...). I have 5 close friends that are on BBM, but what used to be a killer BlackBerry feature is now largely irrelevant.

Sure, it doesn't do one amazing revolutionary thing better than iOS or Android, but it does a lot of small things better.

Cant confirm if this is true or not but I've heard that there is no longer custom sound profiles in bb10.. Man that would be real weak of blackberry if they did that.

people who say its not about the apps...i think you're just kidding yourself....you're getting a smart phone because of the apps else you can stay simple and get a flip phone that has a monochrome screen but colorful leds..

That's it. I use my phone to make calls, send emails and texts, and to read the news. I take the occasional picture. My phone is a communication device first and foremost - it's not a device I use to play Angry Birds, or to watch the latest Vevo video.

The LED is pretty useful, IMHO. I have no idea why no other smartphone maker has adopted a variation of it. It's not like Blackberry has a patent on it.

Sound profiles have been changed up in BlackBerry 10 from what you're used to. You cannot create custom sound profiles anymore, and the volume settings for a profile apply to all of the apps in that profile. In the old BB OS you had Normal, Loud, Medium, Phone Calls Only etc. Now in BB10 they've been cut down to Normal, Phone Calls Only, Vibrate and Silent. It's easier to set up for the average user, but it sort of sucks for power users

The s3 has an LED notification light at the front of the phone like a BlackBerry

Not sure about iPhones.

This is one of the biggest reasons why i upgraded from 9700 to the s3. Loved the LED notification feature on BlackBerrys

Like i mention in my previous postings, hardware isnt everything.

QNX is optimized with the hardware that it has to flow seamlessly and quick.

Later in the year, we will see another device that will be double the specs of the Z10.

If anyone were to ask me opinion on BlackBerry is that it knows what people want, but do a half ass delivery with it. In BB10 I see them finally catching up with the times and actually address many of their past issues. It continues to focus on productivity. Something it lacked over the past few years. It was never about the hardware.

It is however disappointing to know that previous software was crap

I'm with you on that one, but I believe you'll only have that option if your company is on BES 10. Someone correct me if im wrong.

I'll be using my Fido dollars to cut into that $600 bill, but 550ish is still quite a bit for a phone. I spoke to a rep earlier today and they said if you are due for an upgrade, you'll only need to pay $150 (with a 3 yr agreement) not the $350 on the site.

Couldn't agree more. Top reasons why I'm switching. That and the size is perfect - not too big not too small.

Yes, but the problem is that a cellphone is much more than just phone. For many, it's THE device they spent most time on in their day.

iOS+iPhone are arguably the most optimized setup out there. And even with that level of optimization, it's almost always being on par (processing power-wise) or above the rest of competition.

To introduce a phone in 2013 with mid 2012's spec simply doesn't work in my head. Heck, the Nexus 4 is a 2012 phone, 30%+ cheaper AND with better spec than the 2013 BB.

Better hardware doesn't mean everything, but it means something. And I'm not so sure on the optimization part. From the reviews I'm reading, the Z10 can't even match the Lumia920, which is based on the same processor.

The launch described it as a "one-hander" phone. Also why I personally quite like the iPhone amongst all these massive android phones. The S3 is too big for my single-handed use and the note is a joke. This reviewer sort of sums it up for me:

The reviews of the z10 are very appealing, but I'm not gona jump on the bandwagon until I can physically try the OS. Blackberry phones were always good, just he OS was really shitty.

I hope the new BB10 and new phones can bring blackberry back to the game a litte, just cheering for our fellow Canadian company

i find that android does all of those things better than its competition.
they've thought out a lot of thoughtful small details that make it a great phone for a person who wants just a phone, as well as someone who wants more. and yeah, android has been using the notification light since the galaxy nexus.

Just spoke to 5 Reps in the last day about inquiring the White Z10 and why Fido does not have it for preorder , only in black.

Places like bestbuy/futureshop have the white z10 from fido available to be pre ordered.

Also for you fido customers, 3 year contract for this phone is also available.
