Yes, you are correct. Most dash cam video quality are almost same at day time. But there is a huge difference at night time. However, different customers have different demand. Some customers like high quality video dash cams, some customers prefer small body design dash cams.

Curious what is the motion and g sensor setting in parking.

Did you set all the way to insensitive side? If your car park in a private garage in house, it is not surprised that your car can start up after 3 week.

I don't know if the motion setting up to high and people move around frequently in front of the lens. The camera run 24hrs/7 days for sure. I guaranteed the battery will be drain off.

Blackvue dash cams cigar cable is 12v. So I think you did cut off the cigar wire, didn't you?

Some dash cams are 5v cigar charger and has a 12 v converter in the cigar cable charger.

One of RS customer got a dash cam with 5v cable from Ebay. He tried to hardwiring by himself. He cut off the cable and tuck the cable to fuse panel. The fuse panel destroyed, as well as the dash cam.

i bypassed the relay that turned it on and off and just made it always on, i have the dg400 and everything has been fine for the 3 weeks ive had it, i did this originally so i could charge things without having the key in the ignition

Great work. Let see how the voltage is after 2 months. If some members vehicle pass the warranty, that would be a good choice to hardwiring the dash cam:whistle:

Optional external GPS module: they design the external gps for some reason. I have seen some dash cams internal GPS module got burn and resetting the battery of GPS module.
The size of this external gps is very small, just like a SDHC card.

Battery saver which is pretty much similar to Blakcvue's Power Magic.
But size is very small and got a different wiring harness than power magic. Battery saver got a 12v cable which can connect with your dash cam directly. So the we do not need OEM cigar charger when we do hardwiring.

Some specs from the OTOSaver DAS 3000. Objectively, the video quality is ok, but the sharpness of OTOSaver DAS3000 is still not as good as the Vicovations.

Here are some video of OTOSaver DAS 3000

Thinking about getting a Vicovation WF1, already have a blackvue dr 380g (will move blackvue to rear)

bump...

asr 06-18-2013 10:30 PM

^ yes, you can use an splitter. However, you need a fuse about 5 amp because the fuse control 2 dashcams.

Yesterday I brought my car in to get my camera checked thought it was broken .
It stopped working after I brought it to brian jessel for some major work.
I didnt think of anything until asr took the unit apart and found all the cables disconected ground power etc.
Last clip shows 4 techs looking at the camera then all of sudden it stopped recording .

They told me they had to disconnect it because of a recal issue with the battery terminal.
To do this they had to disconnect it.

pingu81 06-26-2013 10:52 PM

Can't decide between the Vicovation WF1 and the OTOSaver DAS3000. Any personal preference from you? ...and why?

imp_squared 06-29-2013 01:29 AM

+1 for the Vicovation WF1 just because of the Operation Temp. features. Operation between" 0°C ~ 65°C (with Auto shutdown protection above 65°C)

uh yea, the recall is for the positive cable from the battery to the junction box only, does not mean the dashcam needs to be disconnected.

jimmerz 07-09-2013 07:41 PM

anyone got instructions on how to take apart a DR400?
my video is coming up as really foggy and it was recommended that i need to clean the interior of the lens and clean to cmos sensor.

i took the unit out but can't see an obvious way to take it apart (no obvious screws/clip points)

help?

asr 07-09-2013 09:09 PM

1 Attachment(s)
See there are 4 black spots on the back of side of the camera (LED lights side)????
^there you go.
1. release 4 rubber seal (at the back side of the camera)
2. release all 4 screws (once you release 4 rubber seals you will see 4 screws)
3. take off the back piece.
4. release 2 screws on the lens
5. using alchohol and q-tips to clean the dust (recommend) or use air blower.
6. put everything back in reverse.

What_the? 07-10-2013 07:48 AM

So is that what it is for the blackvue? My image is also getting quite foggy too and I wasn't sure why.

ASR can you confirm that it's recommended to take apart the cam and clean the lens to help reduce the fogginess?

Jimmerz, who suggested taking it apart if you don't mind me asking? Blackvue? Forum? Friend? Did cleaning it help?

Thanks!

What_the? 07-10-2013 08:19 AM

Nevermind I answered my own question with a google search.

It seems like this does fix the problem but requires doing periodically to maintain good image quality

Yes, it is just like dust get in DSLR camera CMOS. Ok, here is a dr400 version II before clean and after.

Don't forget to use some alcohol to clean the lens.
