Do you tip when you pick up food at a restaurant?

Serious discussion

I know that it is tough for people in the restaurant industry, low wages and they basically make their money on tips.

Two questions.

1) When you go to pick up food, do you guys tip? I do, but usually lower than I would if I was eating at the restaurant because I don't feel as if the workers have "worked" to get as big a tip, and they don't have to clean up after me.

2) At what point do you consider an establishment worthy enough to be considered giving a tip in the first place? I doubt anyone would tip at a place like McShits.

Not at all, I only tip when eating in, or if I go to that establishment so often I just tip ont he takeouts too :).

Hondaracer 09-07-2012 05:01 PM

only when i go to places i'm a regular at, a few sushi places that always give me good service etc., and usually then the bill is like 18/19 and i just leave a 20

I only tip when I eat in.
I don't tip the cashier at the grocery store, and she does more than the person that hands me my take out.

I've noticed that when I pay debit at Nando's, more often than not, that tip question pops up. I used to tip, out of guilt, but not anymore. It's ridiculous to tip for good food and/or service when I haven't even seen my food - let alone, have a bite of it.

1) i used to tip 5% out of guilt (like nns ^) from the debit machine asking me. i stopped a few years ago when i realized i was pretty much handing them money on top of the cost of my food for no reason

2) "worthy" to me - if i sit down, get served and the service is anywhere near average, i'll give 10%. the better the service, the higher percentage of tip, and vice versa. i don't believe in tipping because you should. that shit is earned

I never tip when taking out, the only time I do is when the chicks hot and i'm high lol

Matlock 09-07-2012 05:31 PM

Only if I'm a regular.

bluejays 09-07-2012 05:35 PM

Usually just out of guilt as well, don't really pick much food up except for places where I'm a regular so I don't mind tipping

rsx 09-07-2012 05:42 PM

Nope. Don't get me started on tipping.

El Bastardo 09-07-2012 05:44 PM

ib4 service workers call everyone who doesn't tip while picking up food "cheap assholes"

Alatar 09-07-2012 06:22 PM

I only tip at places I go regularly. And then because I get the takeout in a timely fashion and they change menu items for me upon request. To me, that's deserving of the extra buck.

twitchyzero 09-07-2012 06:55 PM

"out of guilt" cause the debit machine asked you?

grow some balls :nyan:

Noir 09-07-2012 08:32 PM

Having lived in Japan, a place where tipping is non existent and with far more superior service, moving back here and re-acclimating to the restaurant, club, etc culture was a big :fulloffuck:

donjalapeno 09-07-2012 08:35 PM

nope.....

however when i have a table of 20 and they dont tip, it makes me :gun::gun::gun:

shenmecar 09-07-2012 08:37 PM

Hell no, why should they receive a tip. They put my food in a box, and the box in a bag. Thats all. No refilling of drinks, no cleaning of table. Screw that.

I only tip when I eat in.

BaoTurbo 09-07-2012 08:40 PM

The servers that hand you the takeout usually just prepares the food. That's pretty much it

murd0c 09-07-2012 08:42 PM

I personally think why tip someone on take out while they are doing there job... It's nothing special and I find it pointless tipping someone just cause thats the north American culture when eating out.

marc0lishuz 09-07-2012 08:54 PM

Tipping is the dumbest shit ever for eating in or taking out.
