We got lucky with daycare. When the 1st one was ready for daycare, covid happened and we had our pick of where we wanted to send him.

With the second one, she has sibling priority with the group that the first one is at right now. Though it means we are most likely going to be attending the daycare at Knight and 49th, whereas the older one is at Champlain. Bit far but can't complain if we get a spot.

@PeanutButter, I've given up on proper vacations until we can ditch the kids at home. That means at least old enough for grand parents to take care of them for a week. That'll be quite a few years from now.

In the meantime we are doing a cruise to San Diego in Sept. We'll see how that goes.

Obviously hyperbole but they didn’t like it too much lol I just can’t stand kids running around making noise etc. I don’t think I’d be going out at all if I had to bring kids along lol

It's not for everyone, and it's not a life for you. I have friends who are like that.

Hondaracer 08-23-2023 01:53 PM

It’s not so much that I’m embarrassed or inconvenienced by it. I just hate bothering other people

PeanutButter 08-23-2023 01:53 PM

^We had a bbq a couple weeks ago. Six families and my buddy and his girlfriend... He was the new "Uncle" and was willing to play with the kids, oh man, he got worked.

He said he was absolutely exhausted. He joked he's never coming out to a bbq with us again. Not sure if he was joking...

So none of you guys rely on grandparents?

Eff-1 08-23-2023 02:07 PM

Grandparents are hit and miss

Some grandparents are not responsible enough to watch kids (like we talked about in the other thread about how old people become crazy eventually)

They don't listen to the parents requests (they think they know better how to raise a child)

They aren't always located close by, or live out of town

They might be too old and can't move around very much anymore

Or maybe your kids are just still too young to be left with them for more than say one night

In our case, we are lucky when it comes to grandparents helping with babysitting, but it's not like that for everyone.

My parents watched my kid twice when he was growing up, both times were to let my wife and myself go to dinner. We have had pretty much no help at all from parents, if her mom wouldn't have died of cancer she would have been involved for sure but my parents and her dad weren't interested. Funny enough, they are more interested in what's going on with him today at 17 then when he was a toddler.

Edit: I should add that my parents have taken care of my sisters daughter ever since she passed, they had to become parents again in their 60's so it's not like they are heartless.

if you could all move this to the parental thread, that would be grrreeeeaaaatttt

Not everyone has capable grandparents. For instance, my dad is in senior home care with Alzheimers and my mom has pretty much since then relied on us 3 kids to drop by and help clean/grocery run. There's also no way she can catch a 3 yr old from running away. Then there's my FIL who chain smokes and has 2 bad knees hobbling around, so that's a big no. The only capable one is my MIL, who still works at the hospita/RN, and even then, she barely babysits. I think she once watched him for like 4 hours and she said never again till he's self capable. She does however sometimes grab a few items at the store and cooks for us.

What kind of ballers are on this forum, how the fuck are some of you guys paying $2k+ per month on day care, mortgage, car payments, and all that other jazz?

We make pretty good money, but that's fucking nuts.

This forum makes me feel like a broke bitch.

MarkyMark 08-23-2023 05:58 PM

Yeah don't come to RS to feel good about your financial position lol, guys buying 3 million dollar homes and spend more than my mortgage on a fuckin nanny lol

Razor Ramon HG 08-23-2023 06:14 PM

Instead of focusing on feeling broke, should be focusing on the success of our fellow homies

I'll split the diff with you - we can talk about daycares and housing in one spot: https://vancouversun.com/opinion/col...dcare-facility

I've been on a Turkish Netflix Premium Ultra HD plan for the last 12 months with no issues, paying no more than $6.50 CAD per month:lawl:

EDIT:

I also have YouTube Premium FAMILY subscription, retail price it's $22.99 a month. I'm currently paying $3 or less per month for a family account using an Argentina subscription :joy:

EDIT 2:

When the hell did Netflix Canada get so expensive?

I'm aware of the $5.99 plan with ads, but it seems the basic plan for the boot, next one up is $16.49 then $20.99

Lol I actually did this when they went up to like 12.99 for the basic then I decided to just cancel when they got rid of password sharing.

YouTube family is well worth it though.

3 days late, and not sure if RE thread or Politics thread, but this is pure Beaverton gold as usual

Quote:

“Shoutout to the boys in Canada’s overwhelmingly Conservative media who consistently blame immigrants in order to shield our country’s investment class,” Jensen added, pointing toward the assembled crowd of reporters. “Speaking of the money men, big ups to the banks for decades of low interest rates that let us parlay owning some of Canada’s rental properties and starter homes, into owning most of them!”
Quote:

Martin Graves of Victoria, BC notes, “I got renovicted from my apartment of 30 years by the landlord who said his nephew was moving in, and now I see him listing it for double the price. Pretty sneaky scheme by immigrants if you ask me.”

Shelley Whilkins of Brampton, ON added, “Having this immigration policy to blame housing affordability on is also a handy means to launder my existing prejudices through. What a time saver!”

“We’re not criticizing immigrants,” wrote Twitter user @BonerPatrol420, “We’re criticizing immigration policy. For example, Trudeau’s immigration policy allows too many people into the country who all drive terribly and smell weird.”

Back at the press conference, the event was cut short, as the offices where it was held will be bulldozed to build multiple single unit detached homes after being hastily rezoned, likely by immigrants.

It’s funny how that same house was likely purchased by some Chinese lady who pushed dim sum cart while her husband washed dishes in the back.

And they were probably the owners of that restaurant and as "poor" as they looked. They probably had a few hundred thousand stashed away. Case in point, my ex, her dad was co-owner of a very popular Chinese restaurant that opened late for clubbers. He worked 12 hr days 6 days a week. Vancouver house paid off, couple of Vancouver condos paid off. Paid cash for a house for the son and for my ex.
