I think they just deduct from the account and they usually have a cousin or a friend go do some bullshit like fill out the paperwork for empty home etc etc.

I see this locally too especially with the watch marking taking off from Covid. You'll see friends reduce hobbies, eat like shit, penny pinch on things you shouldn't like tires, furniture, or maintenance on cars.

Just so they can get that $20K submariner or datejust. Feels like mid-game materialism that transferred from the high school true religion / NF bomber days.

Badhobz 09-25-2023 10:46 AM

what!? thats dumb. Time to wear PP to take the bus. Too many rolex peasants

Be careful, a couple months ago my friend got decked by two guys who were following him outside of a lounge. They probably saw his PP blue dial inside, $150K? They held them off but lost some jewelry after they whipped out knives. I imagine he would've lost the watch if him and the groups of friends he was with weren't all fit and had some martial arts experience.

I guess on a 20 bus they'll think it's fake but who knows. Should fuck around and report back :lawl:

Now everytime, he wears an expensive watch, I try to stay clear between a window and him incase he gets shot. It's easier to rob him than a bank/house for $100K!

Badhobz 09-25-2023 10:56 AM

holy shit, where was this!?

unit 09-25-2023 10:58 AM

tbh im not sure how these things are getting paid but i do remember him mentioning to me that he wasnt able to pay the prop tax in lieu of the owner, so something else is going on there. he tried to do that to take some heat off of the situation. strata i have no idea... maybe its getting auto debited from his bank account? i don't want to ask again lol. he is one of my really close friends though so i know this is all true.

Hondaracer 09-25-2023 10:59 AM

If you can’t afford to lose it in a mugging, then you can’t afford to be wearing it lol

Lower mainland, I don't wanna dox him. It's an ongoing investigation since cameras captured everything. But cops basically said you're out of luck since they're not on their database. But hinted if you rob it back they can't call the cops since they stole it. After that story, I don't think I wanna own expensive watches, rings, necklaces. Too heaty especially if you can't afford to have it stolen a few times.

Hit the nail. I stick with my poor man Tudor's. I'm sure there's tons of guys who are willing to do worse for less. Aka shank / shoot me from behind for a $15K Sub or $1K iPhone.

If they have a property manager they'd be able to pay it off indirectly for them. Or anyone actually. But they'd also collect rent so idk.

I always think about driving a nice car in Detroit or Chicago, and getting some waste of space carjacking you. Or better yet getting a gun pointed at you for it

I wonder how often targeted car jackings happen in Vancouver because I never hear about them.

Harvey Specter 09-25-2023 11:27 AM

I'd rather spend $12k on a Rolex than say a vacation or electronics.

And I have friends who rent and live in one-bedroom condos but they're sitting on millions of dollars in inheritance. The Lower Mainland is a strange place.

Badhobz 09-25-2023 11:29 AM

just drive a manuel car. Most of these kids dont even know what to do with that dildo in the middle.

JDMDreams 09-25-2023 11:40 AM

Why work when you can get that 5 finger discount, just look at those US videos of Lv, Chanel. You can get that drip for free :okay:

I see this amongst my friends. The asian immigrant mindset of saving every dollar because you never know when you'll eat next. The parents grind to buy the first house and condo for each of their kids. They ingrain all their frugal teachings to the kids and that fun is when you're old / dead. Just worry about making money.

Now that they pass the 1-2BR + inheritance to their kids. The kids were never taught to spend. So they don't do anything with it. I think the 3rd/4th Gen will spend it all.

If that were me I'd be in my GT3 with a N sign, waking up everyone in downtown.

HonestTea 09-25-2023 11:57 AM

Just insure your watches and wear them everywhere lol

The Producer 09-25-2023 12:00 PM

g-shock for gastown or commerical night restaurants for me now. i don't wear a nice watch when I ski or go fishing either. i now classify shitty over town trips as the same type of activity. my wife is the same - cheap tungsten band for those activities too.

it's really not whether you can afford to lose it. why make yourself a target in the first place

I’d like to see/hear what the process of a claim would be like

Have a family friend who got mugged for a 30k Rolex on copa cabana beach in Brazil, chalked it up to a loss and carried on. He’s the type of person I’d assume would have insurance on everything too so presumably it would be very hard to prove your loss.

Our society going in a direction where it doesn’t really matter which watch it is, or whether your jewelry is fake or not, your still a target for people with nothing to lose that know there’s no repercussions for their actions.

CivicBlues 09-25-2023 12:11 PM

That's why I spend money on experiences the only mofos that can jack me is Old Man Time or Alzheimer's.

As an adult they call that Middle-Class Fancy. Same people brag that they got lounge access on their latest flight, but really it came free with their credit card they pay $99 a year for.

Hondaracer 09-25-2023 12:31 PM

Hey, I’d still rather be the guy in the lounge lol

Don't get me wrong, lounge is better than nothing.

But its those who brag about it or are just a bit too excited to be in the lounge that I'm referring to.

Airport lounges busy AF these days.

unit 09-25-2023 01:18 PM

my gfs mom sold their east van house for 1.6 last year, bought a 900k condo in metrotown, she is super frugal and basically only spends money on food. shes generous with her kids tho, she bought us an extra parking spot at the condo and gave us a little donation for our renos at the house. the 700kish remainder is more than enough to support herself including her cpp/gis. despite this she still wants all our cans and cartons for recycling deposits. some asians do be like dat.

those priority pass lounges are not that great too. doesnt work at a lot of lounges and half the time you're not even in same terminal as the lounge you have access to. when it does work its ok, at least you get a free meal.

Badhobz 09-25-2023 01:34 PM

Air Canada domestic lounges are barely better than an east van high school cafeteria . What a shit showwwwww

A fucking gong show for sure. I’ve insured all our crap which is easy enough to do (basically provide receipts, certificates, etc) but I can’t imagine now the claims process will be if they ever mug tiny. They can have my PP but don’t you dare touch my Costco slippers.

Hondaracer 09-25-2023 01:43 PM

I can’t imagine getting robbed on the street for a 20k watch would be anything but a nightmare to get an insurance claim on

When’s the last time you had the clasp serviced? Were you walking alone after 8pm? Did you recently lose weight making your watch looser than normal? Do you have the police officers mainden name?

Lol like having somthing stolen off your person out in public seems like it would be virtually impossible to insure because who’s to say you’re not bullshiting or you didn’t leave it in your car etc.
