OH MY GOD... 15 minutes??

A solid balance between privacy AND convenience... how awful!

JDMDreams 05-02-2024 03:50 PM

Isn't that everyone's dream, live within 15 min of everything. Don't forget gas is way cheaper

when it's minus 20 outside and it's snowing it won't be fun. I also don't think snow removal will be a priority in that area.

if i had to live in an area with -20 winters, calgary ain't bad.

i don't know how it is now, but 20 years ago you sort of got used to it, especially with chinook's, you can be in a sweat shirt and jogging pants playing outdoor hockey and sweating.

but like my earlier post, i'd prefer to stay in BC with more moderate climate, but i don't think you'll be seeing that type of value for RE in BC unfortunately

JDMDreams 05-02-2024 08:53 PM

But the savings is enough for GR Corolla or g wagon

In my time shopping for homes in AB (Before the epic price surging), I discovered that most homes over $1M were very much 'custom tailored' to their owner's specs. You either love it or hate it. I mostly hated it but the ones I loved were out of my price range.

That said, I still may take a 'hate it' design over the clinical drug rehab style homes like the $3M one posted above. Just missing 3 Methanies and Dr. Drew.

RE: Late snow

After 3 brutal years of heat, forest fires, smoke and nasty summer traffic here, AB weather is a nice change of pace :lol

For me, the wind is more annoying the snow...

My gut reaction with that Calgary Castle feels like a ton of value with lots of space for whatever, but at the same time, it'll feel cold and empty unless enough people are living there to make it feel lived in.

For a family of 4, 3500 square feet is probably the threshold.

We have ~3000 to ourselves and it's just about right. Our kids are still young, so they might need more as they get older.

JDMDreams 05-03-2024 07:17 AM

That Edmonton house is a bit too haunted looking for my liking.

Beautiful home, love these Georgian style homes, there are a couple similar ones in the old part of new west

CivicBlues 05-03-2024 07:35 AM

^ looks like something out of the Eastern US that Kevin McCallister's dad would own back in the early 90s. See you don't have to be a mob-boss after all, just move to Edmonton!

Great68 05-03-2024 08:13 AM

Nice back yard but I can't imagine it gets much use.

A family friend of my dad's lives in Edmonton. I remember visting him a few years ago, and being outside the mosquitos were absolutely brutal and relentless.

What you don’t like dead white people watching you fuck ? I got a kink for that

one of the main reasons we bought here was because we wanted to garden. here and on the island are the only places that have such a long growing season in canada. everywhere else is like zone 3 and growing tomato varieties that have names like 'yukon, alaska, super early, etc...'. if we moved to alberta or god forbid somewhere else then we would be sacrificing one of the biggest reasons for buying a house to begin with.

68style 05-03-2024 08:55 AM

Ima just come back to BC and snatch yo crops

Me waiting for these freaking spring frosts to finally be over and evict these fuckers:

Need to make room for the peppers which have to come out of the grow lights in the basement.

68style 05-03-2024 09:23 AM

You have a basement?? Does it have a secret entrance? I never noticed you had one when I was there lol

... or was I just lucky not to end up there?

underscore 05-03-2024 09:43 AM

I went camping last weekend and yesterday we already had deer swiping our tulips, meanwhile my boss in Calgary was getting hit with a snowstorm.

68style 05-03-2024 09:47 AM

Yah it's gonna suck... but I'm old and I don't go outside much anymore FeelsBadMan

At least I'll have much more room to be old in!

Great68 05-03-2024 09:48 AM

Yeah it's down the concrete steps on the side of the house. You would have walked past it when you walked up the driveway to the backyard.

No you don't want to be down there, the spiders are huge and vicious...
Half of it is finished, but we don't use it for anything more than storage and grow op.

How much weed are you allowed to grow privately again? 2 plants?

Great68 05-03-2024 01:34 PM

Lol, I don't actually have any weed plants (I grew one plant 2 years ago just for fun and ended up with more weed than I'll ever use in my lifetime, I'm a very light doper), but I believe you're allowed 4.

underscore 05-03-2024 01:47 PM

A secret basement full of huge spiders?

Are you Hagrid? :suspicious:
