back in my old life, the management/owners would tell us job's not over until you get paid and the hardest part of the project isn't the project itself, it's getting paid.
as an early on PM i didn't think much of it as i'm focused on the project and let finance sort the money out. in my old age and as a manager i know what they mean 
it is disheartening in general to follow rules and be honourable, where you see scumbags be scumbags with little to no repercussions.

hard for most folks to retire in 50's... wife's coworkers working well in to 60's b/c they need to fund/support their kids as well (1st home, schooling - international or med school etc).

Looking at how many people kick the bucket when they are 70ish, that means after i retire, ill have another 20 years of trolling the globe before i likely kick the bucket.

yes my wife is a nurse and those examples i gave are her coworkers.
in some cases they retire, collect a pension, but they also come back and work more b/c they need the $ for whatever they have going on, quite often helping their kids

So glad I’m the only child of an only child. Waiting for that generational wealth to retire. That said my mom is only 59 so I’ll probably die before her.

My daughter sits even better as another only child. Realistically it’s probably gonna skip me, but it does make me feel better knowing she’s gonna have a chance at owning a zero bedroom condo and still have enough money left over for like 6 bottles of fresh water without me working til 78 to help her out with it.

I don't get white boomers waiting till they die to payout kids. Isn't it a huge tax bill. Asians usual add their kids onto everything before they die. Also what kinda loser are you if you don't at least try to be richer than your parents. Who literally did nothing than buy a house. We literally have a million more ways to make money now a days than parents generation.

In Canada we don't have an inheritance tax like they do in the US, there is a small probate fee in BC, but that's just over 1%.
There is a ton of misinformation about people thinking putting their kids on assets making things way better but the reality is it often adds additional complication and really does not skip any meaningful taxation.

We’ve had Asian people here tell story after story about their parents not wanting to put them on title or make a will because it’s discussing their mortality.. the opposite of that.. you’re literally just cutting a cheque to the govt for -nothing-
I find many of my friends now with parents getting into their late 60’s to late 70’s are now being quite generous with their “wealth” even my own parents I think that the realization of them not being around forever it kind of hitting and they often pick up the tab for various things, pay for vacations, etc. they are by no means over the top wealthy but have made good money for some time and been smart about it. Even if you’re worth 3-5 mill with a house paid off, if you’re in your mid 60’s it’s unlikely you can spend all that even being fairly frivolous before you die
