Can you just shut the fuck up already Arash? You got shut down for trying to save face on your own gaffe, and are resorting to backpedaling and ad hominem, completely unrelated to the subject attacks to make it seem like you didn't screw up. That screengrab has nothing to do with anything. Keep trying, and you'll just dig yourself even deeper into a hole.

To stay on topic, didn't feel anything in my part of Surrey.

CharlesInCharge 10-27-2012 09:31 PM

Ooooh an ad hominem, this is too funny and Im sure you wont be the last to have your panties in a knot. A mod used to come in and delete my posts at one time, I dont see why half of page two shouldnt get deleted too now.

Anyways, any towns effected by this?

Gab made a simple joke; I laughed, and others laughed, so we thanked the post.

Was the joke not droll enough for you?

Here's another silly bit of wit for you to criticize:

What kind of party do plumbers go to? A tap dance.

Oh no, I just made a disparaging comment against plumbers.

Go ahead, criticize me now.

I'm still waiting for a response in this thread: http://www.revscene.net/forums/67512...leaders-6.html.

You're bold enough to claim a disgraced former Chief who advocates terrorism should be made Prime Minster, but too intimated by the facts to defend your statement.

Nothing up here in Burnaby

LOLIRONY.

I'll join in, MindBomber. What's a building called where livestock come together?

A meating place.

supposedly it's implied I insulted vegetarians and animal lovers. I guess this is a green light for me to get criticism too.

I'll respond to that thread when new developments happen. You didnt post convincing media showing a better leader like Terry fighting for true power.

So you think you're right in saying your body kit is going to be fly...oh wait, it's barely off the ground at this point.

You started this off-topic nonsense. Game on.

MandarinOrange7 10-27-2012 09:48 PM

there was also an earthquake in Taiwan on Thursday.. not sure if there's any connection

CharlesInCharge 10-27-2012 09:52 PM

This realtime earthquake site that was posted earlier should show

the after shocks are still hitting our coast.

In respect to what may have been a serious event off our coast, possibly flooding some private homes, and not getting banned, I will not veer this off topic any longer.

Spoiler!

Valid statement, I bumped the other thread with an update.

I spoke to someone on Haida Gwaii earlier, and she said, the shaking was way too strong to not notice and the tsunami warning sirens went off, but there doesn't appear to have been severe damage to structures and she doesn't know of any injuries...

...she's quite shaken up though.

Quote:

A tsunami warning is in effect for the Central and North B.C. coast after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Queen Charlotte Islands at 8:04 p.m. Saturday.

The epicentre of the earthquake was located 198 kilometres south-southwest of Prince Rupert at a depth of 10 km, said the U.S. Geological Survey, which measured the quake at 7.7. Earthquake Canada measured it at a magnitude of 7.1. USGS also reported two aftershocks, one of magnitude 5.8 at 8:14 p.m., another of magnitude 4.8 at 8:52 p.m.

A tsunami warning was announced by Emergency Info B.C. in Zones A and B, from Port McNeill on Vancouver Island to the Alaskan border.

Steve Querengesser in Queen Charlotte emailed his experiences to The Province.

"We were in the local high school in the Village of Queen Charlotte when the earthquake struck. At first, we thought that it was the beginning of a storm or a large military vehicle passing by. Then our friend said simply, 'It's an earthquake'. We ran to the nearest doorway and felt the whole room sway and shake. It seemed to last forever, but also pass quickly. We ran from the school to our vehicle once the shaking stopped, and drove to higher ground, to a tsunami evacuation zone. It was a wild experience. Our hearts are still beating fast."

Paul Jarvis, a writer in Tofino who volunteers with emergency social services said that up to about 500 people in the community headed to high ground in the Community Centre and the local elementary school.

"The Tsunami sirens were going off. We got a text on our phone saying there's an evacuation to go. We had to go and unlock the community hall. Everyone seems to have got there O.K. The roads are fine, they're just a little congested."

"Everybody is a little on edge...There hasn't actually been a warning for this area. Everyone is just being safe."

An advisory put out by B.C. Emergency officals at 10.30 p.m. noted a small water rise of less than 50 cm at Langara Lodge.

Emergency Info B.C. said the first waves seen are usually not the largest, and the waves can go on for several hours. Information about dealing with an emergency is available at their website, as are the latest updates to the tsunami warning: emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca

Earthquake Canada said the quake was felt across much of north-central B.C., including Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, and Houston and that no injuries have been reported.

Officials asked those in the area to try to keep phone lines clear, and listen to the radio for updates and instructions.

Visit tsunami.gov for more information about the tsunami alert.

Twitter users from Smithers and Terrace to Kamloops and the Lower Mainland reported lights and blinds shaking and swaying. Ther are as yet no reports of any damage.

Local residents in Sandspit had reportedly headed to Hydro Hill, the highest point in the area. No signs yet of high waves.

Worth staying up to watch the live coverage on CBC... CBC.ca - Program Guide - Personalities

CBC showing live traffic cams from Hawaii of people heading for higher ground... I wanna see the live beach cams of the idiots who rush down to see the tsunami and get wiped away!

Noticed something kinda creepy... Haida Gwaii quake -> Hawaii tsunami... HAida gWAII... whoa.

Don't quote me on any of this, I'm not a seismologist -- I posted this in the earthquake thread from September last year.

It is, but remember how the Richter Scale works. It's unlikely that this quake released more than a tiny fraction of the pressure that actually exists down there.

I remember learning this in Math 10 or something around that time:

For each unit that the Richter Scale goes up, the magnitude of the quake actually increases 10-fold. (7.0 quake's magnitude is 10x larger than a 6.0's.) It's a logarithmic scale with base 10. 10^(x), where x is the number on the Richter Scale.

Let's assume that the "Big One" will be an 8.5 on the Richter Scale. Today's quake was a 6.4(?). The difference in magnitude is 2.1.
(10^2.1) : 1 = ~126:1
That means that today's quake was 126 times smaller in magnitude than the "Big One" if it will be 8.5.

The magnitude, however, is only on the scale. Finding the relative amount of energy released requires raising our numbers to yet another power: (3/2) [Thank you, Google.]
The difference in magnitude was 2.1.
(10^2.1)^(3/2) = ~1,412

A quake of 8.5 would release 1,412 times more energy than that of today's quake. Who knows? Maybe the "Big One" will be a 9.5. In that case, the energy released will be 44,668 times more than today's quake.

I don't know about you, but I'm not too sold on the idea of this minuscule pressure relief being something for us to be relieved about.
