Is it just me or does there seem to be more aftershocks than normal? And big aftershocks at that (yes I know the aftershocks can be bigger than the original).

Lol, smoked a joint before bed last night, saw this thread, went to bed paranoid haha.

I'm pretty sure we will have an earthquake that we can really feel locally before I die, but, I don't think it will be "the big one".

that means theres lots of pressure on the plates. It could be a good thing to help take the pressure off but it could also trigger a chain reaction to cause the "big one" as well

Hondaracer 10-28-2012 02:50 PM

before i went to bed last night at like 230 a few friends from europe messaged me on facebook asking me if we were all ok, i was like uhhh..ya? i read the short little blurbs on news1130 etc didnt think much of it

she said that the CNN news feed they had in europe basically was making the earthquake look much like the one in south east asia etc. really pushing the evacutations etc

Lots of out of town emails and stuff. They hear 7.7 and think everything is in chaos lol

Meanwhile most people couldn't even feel it.

Tim Budong 10-29-2012 03:10 PM

the media has no idea what the fuck happened
paired with the fact that it took 45min for authorities to issue any statement or warning

yea.. Canada..
I will pretend #PrayForCanada means help us get through the lockout

Hot springs shut off by quake?
Quote:

The recent West Coast earthquake appears to have shut off the water at the popular hot springs in Haida Gwaii's national park, local tourism operators have confirmed.

After Saturday's 7.7 magnitude earthquake Parks Canada workers went to check the springs and found they had run dry, according to Barb Rowsell, who owns Anvil Cove Charters.

"Three people went down to check it out, and sure enough there is no hot water and the rocks are dry and cold," said Rowsell, who has been ferrying visitors to Hotspring Island for years.

The popular natural attraction in Gwaii Haanas National Park has been a major tourist draw for decades, but apparently they will warm up cold and weary travellers no more.

The park's superintendent Ernie Gladstone says the springs were still steaming last week, but now, to his dismay, there is not even a puddle left.

"We did have staff on site on Thursday before Saturday's events, and now less than a week later the water's not flowing so we have to assume it's a result of Saturday's earthquakes or one of the many aftershock since then," said Gladstone.

Geological experts will be investigating what may have happened to the springs in the days to come, he said.

Carol Kulesha, the mayor of the Village of Queen Charlotte, says the natural attraction will be missed by locals as much as tourists.

"Even though it's a distance from Queen Charlotte, it's something we all like to go to whenever we have an opportunity."

It's not yet clear exactly why or when the springs dried up. The 7.7 quake struck just after 8 p.m. Saturday and residents of the region reported the shaking lasted for up to a minute, but there was no damage to homes or other structures reported.

It was the largest recorded in Canada in 60 years and struck just off the coast of Haida Gwaii. Dozens of aftershocks as strong as 6.3 have since rattled the region.

Rowsell says she is trying to be philosophical about their disappearance, and says she hopes tourists will keep coming to the region anyway, for its other beauties.

"Well as my husband said, the earth gives and it takes away."

I dont know how anyone in the LM felt them I was in Tofino at the time and felt nothing lol. Or I guess the question is if people in the LM felt them how the hell didnt I feel anything in Tofino. There was sirens and we did have to evacuate to higher ground and wait for instructions.
