If you want the start button back, there are free apps that will do that Posted via RS Mobile |
I'm a bit confused. I downloaded win8, and the last page asks me whether to: -Install now -Install later from your desktop I chose to install later. So all I see is this "Install Windows" shortcut on my desktop. Where's the Windows 8 file that I'm supposed to put in my usb stick? |
after you selected install later, you were given the choice of saving to your desktop, or creating an iso, or a usb stick. you chose desktop. Posted via RS Mobile |
weird i got this message Unfortunately, based on the information you provided during the registration process you are not eligible for the upgrade offer. |

Is the option here?? or did I pass it already? |
Maybe... not sure why it says "Close" instead of "Next" |
maybe Microsoft is preventing people from buying the upgrade version and using it as the full retail version by cutting out the burn to cd or save to usb |
Tried both Canada and Hong Kong links, and both gave me a license key prompt. |
should try contacting them and asking "whats up?" maybe its like that previous windows piracy prevention feature where they ask you to call them and most people think "oh noes" and don't call but if you do you just get a code to type in and install |
How many licenses (i.e. how many computers can I install it on) does this have? |
It's asking me for a Windows 7 product key. |
says 39.99 for me |

Coles notes on how to get this deal. 1. Make up some random PC purchase. Select a date after June 2. (I always just use June 3rd) 2. Get email with code and run the upgrade assistant on a PC with a valid windows license. Let it go through the upgrade compatibility stuff and then it'll let you purchase the key. 3. Copy and paste promo code. 4. Now you have one of two options. Upgrade from your current version, or doing a clean install. 5. The clean install process requires you to install it twice, because it cannot detect a valid previous windows installation and will not let you validate your cd-key. By installing it twice, it tricks it into thinking you're doing an upgrade. So how you install it twice, is by either burning it on a cd, or make a bootable usb key, and open the setup file once you're loaded into windows 8. Don't boot from the cd or the usb key or it won't validate when you reinstall (does a clean install again rather than an upgrade). |
I just completed the offer on a 1 year old Dell computer that shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium, here's what I did... Entered a date of purchase in September 2012, NCIX as retailer, Dell as brand, Optiplex as model. Offer registration completed, received two emails. Opened email on Dell PC and downloaded Upgrade Assistant, chose DVD media, entered shipping and billing info, at checkout page entered promo code (from email) and total came to $36.37 after taxes, paid via Paypal. Currently the Upgrade Assistant is downloading the install files for Windows 8 Pro. I was not asked to enter my old product key at any time during this process. The Dell PC was running a freshly installed copy of Windows 7 Pro (not yet activated, no product key entered), the Upgrade Assistant didn't even have a product key to pull from the registry. |

So I guess enough people can confirm this works fine? |
OK for you guys having the problem. When it asks you if you want to do an upgrade and keep files choose clean install and they will let you put on usb |
Paypal processing is down for the time being. Just tried. Wonder if their data centres are back east. |
If you choose, upgrade and keep files, none of your files are deleted right? I know it seems like a silly question, just want to make sure. |
yes nothings deleted |

Where exactly is this screen? |
In which screen does it prompt you to enter promo code? I didn't see it in the upgrade assistant and now it's asking for credit card info. Also, for those who kept files and upgraded instead of clean install, how long did the upgrade take? |
