The screen right after you enter the credit card info, but before you confirm payment, asks for the promo code.

BigTrollFace 10-29-2012 06:55 PM

After the scan and they tell you whats compatible, it will say what kind of install are you going to do.

Upgrade and delete everything, upgrade and keep files, fresh install.

choose fresh install.

Go through payment. Promo code is during one of those payment screens after billing name I believe.

and then it will ask install now later etc and then choose later then it will ask usb or iso

It's after the credit card information where it reviews your billing address and basket before you confirm.

You input your code and it will update the price

Thanks guys.

BigTrollFace 10-29-2012 07:32 PM

Confirmed fresh install works.

I couldn't try upgrade and keep files because it would not let me run setup because its a x86 system

It's a stupid question but is windows 8 64 bit? I'm running win7 32 bit and want to upgrade to 64. Will this work? Thanks

Its 64 bit and the upgrade will work.

AzNightmare 10-29-2012 07:58 PM

Are you 100% sure it's 64 bit?

I've read that the initial computer scanning is to scan what kind of computer you currently have,
and what version it's capable of running optimally. Then it will auto-install 32 or 64-bit accordingly.

I hope that's not true, cause if it is, I'm screwed cause I'm on 32-bit.

Sigh, such a mess, not sure what I'm doing wrong. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact I'm on XP.
I'm not getting these options that you guys are talking about.

Now I have to figure out how to re-download this thing if possible.

SkinnyPupp 10-29-2012 08:02 PM

Yup I got screwed on my laptop. Since the OS was 32 bit, it installed the 32 bit version of Windows 8 as well. It even says "64 bit capable CPU"

If you want to upgrade, you have to do a fresh install. But to get the 64 bit binaries, you will need to download it on a 64 bit OS, and install it from a USB or DVD. If you download it from your 32 bit, it will give you a 32 bit key and binaries.

StylinRed 10-29-2012 08:06 PM

you can download the 64bit through torrents/newsgroups not sure if your key would work though

BigTrollFace 10-29-2012 08:08 PM

i need 32 bit FUCK

AzNightmare 10-29-2012 08:11 PM

this is so fcking pissing.
So many guide and tutorial on how to burn the iso or create a bootable usb stick (which I already know how to do)

but no tutorials on how to get the fucking ISO in the first place.

That can only mean getting the iso is really straight forward, and something glitched on me.

Piece of shit windows becoming like apple or something :suspicious:
Let the users choose what they want, none of this auto-pilot crap.

Herpaderp......................................... ..........
Buy legal copy

download pirated copy so it will work....

Graeme S 10-29-2012 08:56 PM

Once you've paid and all that, it'll start downloading. I chose "install later from your desktop", and it just closed. I haven't got a USB that's big enough (I know, I know), so I'll probably just do the upgrade sometime tomorrow.

Excited and nervous. I really don't want to fuck this shit up.

BigTrollFace 10-29-2012 09:01 PM

figured it out, whoever setup this computer put a vga and dvi cable so it thought it had dual monitors and i unplugged one its ok

flagella 10-29-2012 09:12 PM

Installed. It's gonna take a bit to get used to, but definitely not as bad as some people claimed to be. Still figuring out how to close an app after you open one lol.

BigTrollFace 10-29-2012 09:13 PM

to do a clean install

boot from iso or usb, install windows.

it will not be activated. put in iso or usb again and do another install and you can activate

I have no idea why you're having so many problems. For me the option was right there when I ran the installer.

Anyway you can just download the unedited RTM I suppose.

Move mouse cursor to the top of the screen. Then left click and drag down to close app

BigTrollFace 10-29-2012 09:21 PM

FALSE!

go to middle of app on top and drag and throw down

you can move your mouse to the top left of the screen that'll bring out the multi-tasking bar and you can right click and close the apps open from there or as noted above drag the screen from the top to bottom

StylinRed 10-29-2012 09:59 PM

install it and just download it from torrents/newsgroups (not the rtm version but the reail one) and keep that along with your product key to use whenever ?

Graeme S 10-29-2012 10:00 PM

Weird. Wonder why you don't get the third option. I get "Install by creating media".

Very odd. What win7 version are you running?

StylinRed 10-29-2012 10:01 PM

he's on XP that might be the reason
