Severe food poisoning, anyone go through this before? Okay so, Friday night, I went to the fresh slice pizza on granview hwy. ordered 3 slices of "all meats" pizza . A few hours later after midnight, I started heating up to what was a small fever. Over the past few days up till today I've been experiencing vomiting, diarrhea. Lost about 5-10lbs water weight I'm guessing. Finally able to have the strength to go to th doctors today. It was not killing me so I did not go to the hospital. What can I do at this point to bring my health back up? Everything I eat/ drink has been coming out, and I've missed 3 days of work. What should I do? Posted via RS Mobile |
stop posting on RS,, and call below. 811 hotline offers non-emergency health advice |
3 days you better go to the hospital, you are probably severely dehydrated and can do some damage to yourself if it continues |
I've had food poisoning twice in the last 4 years and it sucks monkey balls. Each time it lasted at least a week. When you vomit and have diarrhea, its getting rid of the bacterica that's in your system. I know it probably going to feel like your going to die or death would be better than feeling this way. Drink water, eat whatever you can and sleep as much as possible. Sleep under the covers and keep your body temperature up. Having your body temp higher will fight your illness faster. |

Yea it feels like I'm dying. I had nobody to help me, finally feel better today to get out of bed, I can't afford to lose another day of work, almost a week off :(. Are there certain foods I can eat only or no? Hard to control my bowels (sorry to ruin your breakfasts) I am assuming its food poisoning because its been a few years since I have been sick and all of a sudden after eating pizza it felt like a mild fever, stomach cramps for a few hours and dizziness until I went to the washroom to puke/ dump it all out. I went through something like this before. Anything I ate or drank would just come back up, including water. I just didn't eat or drink for 3 days to avoid puking. Around the 3rd or 4th day I had to eat or drink SOMETHING, so I drank some gatorade and water. Couple days later I felt well enough to leave the house. In hindsight, I probably did everything wrong, but I had no idea what was going on or how to recover from it. |

Is this food poisoning, or a case of the norwalk virus? |
I thought it was the Norwalk virus , they have similar symptoms, in my case I'm guessing food poisoning since the fever lasted only a few hours right after I ate the pizza. The first few days were just dizziness, puking/diarrhea or no puking at all, cramps in my right abdomen felt like something bursted but It was my indigestion. Posted via RS Mobile |
I had food poisoning over the past 2 days. Went to bed around 2AM Sunday morning. Woke up with intense fever and feeling to vomit. Pretty much passed out on and off throughout the whole day like someone was killing me. Woke up around 2AM Monday, and finally puked everything out. Non-stop diarrhea. God, the feeling that you had, I can relate. It is probably the worst feeling ever. Non-stop sweating, fever, cramps, etc. Finally stopped around mid-afternoon on Monday. I too must've lost like 5 pounds in water weight. The key is to drink things like Gatorade to stay hydrated. Or you can make your own homemade concoction with a recipe online. I forgot what it was, but all it requires is a little bit of salt and sugar mixed in with water. And my first recovery meal was pho. Tasted so good. |
Until you are back to health... avoid: -dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt, etc) -spicy foods -meats -greasy foods (fast food, take-out, etc) -vegetables that can cause gas and bloating (broccoli, etc) What you should be ingesting: -broth-type soups -toast -crackers -LOTS of water or liquids like gatorade and powerade. You should really drink a product called gastrolyte but Ill warn you that it taste pretty horrible -bananas and other soft fruit Try to eat small amounts every couple hours to build your strength back up. You NEED to drink as many liquids as possible. You may be still feeling terrible because you are very dehydrated. If you still can not keep anything down you will NEED to go to the ER. You can call a non-emergency line and have an ambulance take you. The ER can give you an anti-spastic drug to stop puking and gravol to settle the nausea. The can also give you an IV is it is required....that alone, will make you feel better. |
@Doritos: Should've gone to the hospital. I've had something similar where it turned out to be stomach flu. It was going around my whole family but I got the brunt of it and was uncontrollably throwing up every few minutes and having diarrhea. After waiting 3 hours at ER, I finally got a bed and was given 3L of fluid (IV), 1 nausea IV and 1 for a migrain I was having. Just cause you think your fine, sometimes it's not the case. |
You need to replenish your minerals and fluids. You also need to stay cool for your body to be able to fight off whats ailing it. When you go to the hospital with a fever they dont bundle you up all comfy with hot water bottles and nice fuzzy blankets. They open the windows take away all warm fuzzy blankets and chill you to help control your internal temp. This sucks trust me I know but you must do it. Pay heed to dino's food advise. |
^ True. I thought i was fine the last time i was sick..... |
Revscene, M.D. :drunk: OP, if you live alone, do consider just calling 911 if it lasts more than a day. Yes it's a hassle and yes you'll wait there for 400 years without anyone looking at you, but you'll be under supervision of experts. |
Some people recommend the BRAT diet at times like this - bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast But just simple congee works as good IMO. I think what you will really be graving is something sweet. At least for me that was the case. Unfortunately, too much sugar can dehydrate the body as well. |
going to doctors soon and picking up a pack of gatorade, are there specific foods to gain my weight back quickly?. I want to eat my favorite foods so bad its been 3-4 days. :rukidding: |
I got food poisoning here in Los Angeles by drinking water out of a fountain. I had to replenish by drinking Gatorade and did the BRAT diet. Posted via RS Mobile |
+1 on gatorade, fill up on electrolytes. had food poisoning before that left me with a fever, shakes, and aches...it sucks... from the sounds of it...you must be pooped  |
Just eat regularly, and drink a shit ton of water. Your weight will go back to its normal levels. |
