Manzo on Richmond garden city is a great place. But it is quite pricey for its food.

depending on what you order , average around 60-100$ for 2 people.

if talking about decent...its matsuyama or koto late night. beats ayce.

broken_arrow 03-17-2013 08:39 PM

So far my favourite are Aoki (Kits), Hiyori (Vancouver), Sun Sushi (UBC). But if I had to chose between the three, it would be Aoki. Huge pieces and super fresh. Their Oysters are good too (plus cheap).

Matsuyama used to be decent, but I think it's really gone downhill.. The rice is old and disgusting.. Koto is great though!

yea. matsuyama rice bowls are terrible. but their sushi and sashimi are still good.

Tried Toshi the other day from numerous recommendations... And to be honest, I didn't notice anything special. Nothing was wrong with it, but nothing was that outstanding either.

Spoilered for insta-glam

For sashimi and nigiri, and some sushi, try Sushi Hachi in Richmond (not the Vancouver one).

Small restaurant.

ALWAYS full, and don't even think about going there without a reservation.

I see at least 4 or 5 parties get turned away all the time during a 1 hour eating session.

But, this is more for Sashimi and nigiri.. not sure if you wanted SUSHI only like ye olde Dynamite roll or specialty rolls.

Too bad Yuji's Tapas in Kitslano closed down 2 years ago. They had good SUSHI and Sashimi and hot plates. And, they offered brown rice options.

JShifter 04-20-2013 06:23 AM

Samurai Sushi, pretty good big portions and it's filling great deal.

tru_blue 04-21-2013 02:30 PM

hows "Take Sento" on Alexandra in Richmond? I heard its quite pricy. Do they serve sushi also?

Depends on which one. The one on Cambie is god awful. They give you the shitty cuts of salmon in their sushi rolls, the bit thats close to the skin so its very chewy. Their tuna sushi/sashimi is similarly as chewy, and sometimes even have a stringy texture. I haven't been there for a year now. So I guess they could've improved since the last time I went and had a terrible experience.

The one on Fraser is better imo.

MelonBoy 04-21-2013 06:06 PM

Been going to Sushi Holic lately.. i've noticed sushi garden quality is dropping quite a bit the last few times I went.

btw I hate matsuyama with a passion.. only place I've ever been to that I was so choked about the service and quality
I wanted to tell the server how horrible it was but didn't get the chance because she never came back to pick up the bill.
I left a happy note with no tip + I deducted a few things they charged us for which never even came.

trancehead 04-21-2013 07:52 PM

matsuyama is terrible. i would not even classify that as japanese food

and if you are just spending money there late night to just get full, there are many better alternatives to just put in the calories for a cheaper price

kcl38 04-21-2013 08:02 PM

Jumbo sushi in Richmond for creative rolls at a good price. I can't help but feel like they're struggling :(

Their rolls are waaaaayyyy too big to the point where it's kinda unappetizing.

Not even close to quality stuff, but it's decent for a cheap filling fix

And I do agree that the Fraser one is better than the Cambie one

I was at Koto last light. Not impressed with the super long wait time, bad service and poor quality sashimi.

Totally Korean, far from what sushi should taste like. Quite pricy there for average stuff at best.
