5 days already, chances are she is either dead or hiding somewhere after getting raped or tortured.

This is very sad news. I know the area very well, having spent a month living in the Arts District a mile away from the Cecil. I can tell you for sure that once it gets dark, you don't want to be caught walking around in that area. You'd be safe even in a place like Pigeon Park.

:suspicious: that's pretty damned bad

dlo 02-12-2013 10:24 PM

never had a problem down in pigeon park, but i understood ur comparison.. that sucks

Exactly.

The homeless and drug addicts at Pigeon Park keep to themselves. The most they'll do is ask you for change and cuss you off.

Where the Cecil Hotel is in Los Angeles - it's a whole different crowd.

Why the eff would should stay at such a crummy hotel?

No roomshares on LA craigslist? I'd choose that over staying at some run-down scary neighbourhood Cecil Hotel.

This doesn't story doesn't add up. Hope shes found safe.

That review you read, written by Elisa's friend, so looks like she only wanted to warn people away from the Hotel.

It's exactly how you described it in your post.

In the day time, it's seedy. Not many people hang out in the Historic area. The area has its problems and like I said, walking through Pigeon Park is literally a walk in the park compared to where the Cecil Hotel is. Los Angeles is strange. On one side of the street, it will be perfectly normal, full of life and culture. And across the street will be poverty, drugs, crime - the whole works.

I was hoping this story was going to be something like those missing elderly stories, where they end up being found within a day or two later.

But that's wishful thinking, since this is a 21 year old that's missing.

At the very least, do we even know why she went there in the first place yet??

The strangest thing in my opinion about this whole case is, the reason she went there is unclear, or not being mentioned by the media, as far as I'm aware...

StylinRed 02-13-2013 12:55 AM

im guessing prostitution and drug use quite possibly even lured into it

since the reason why she left for LA is a mystery and especially after this comment by the LAPD

The LAPD also noted today in an updated missing person release that Lam "possibly suffers from mild depression."

I'm sure there's a lot of information being withheld to the public at this time, and only more info will slowly be leaked when police need further public assistance.
That's usually how it is.

I really do hope it all ends well, but I have to admit, I can't logically expect her to be in a good situation right now, unless she's purposely hiding on her own.

dave123 02-13-2013 01:09 PM

I dont think she knew the area

if you were on a budget this hotel looks decent from web ads:
Cecil Hotel Hotel - Los Angeles - United States - With 531 guest reviews

Its like if you were to stay at a hotel by gastown, if you walk 2 blocks east you will be in shit central at main and hastings. Our skid row is not even close to LA. I've seen some bad parts of LA, people like us would stick out and there's a high chance you will get mugged.

toyobaru 02-13-2013 01:47 PM

I have to agree with the above posts about this whole story not adding up. For one why would she go to LA alone? Secondly last she was seen with a t shirt and purple shorts? My guess to some of this mystery is she must have met someone online and lured her to that area. For a girl with the brains for UBC im sure she'd know better. But when youre looking for love, you never know whether youre looking in a wrong place or good. Love is blind.

You'd be surprised. There are some dumbass people that go to UBC...

EmperorIS 02-13-2013 01:55 PM

I know of people who graduate UBC but can't name me the Axis powers or the Allies powers.

Matlock 02-13-2013 02:05 PM

I feel really bad for her family. Without getting too personal, let's just say that people that I know know their parents and the father seemed to be a very nice guy that one time that I met him a few years ago. I never knew that they had kids.

It pisses me off when bad things happen to good people.

Not really racist! 02-13-2013 05:47 PM

its been like almost a week now? :(

on another note who banned hondaracer?

Amuse 02-13-2013 07:10 PM

Being book smart doesn't necessarily mean you are street smart.

Oh come on, that's not really fair. I am sure there is a shit-pile of basic info that you may not know because you chose a different area of study.

dub.g 02-14-2013 08:35 AM

wow that elevator security video was wierd....

at one point she had her hands out trying to feel the air.. maybe she was blind without her glasses

and a normal person doesnt hide like that away from something

GLOW 02-14-2013 08:46 AM

the video gave me the impression like she might have been drugged

jlo mein 02-14-2013 08:52 AM

This is a very sad case and tragic for the family, but doesn't it seem very suspicious that the police and family are not commenting on virtually anything?

With no evidence besides the current situation and the video, it seems possible there could be drugs involved. I assume the police don't want to slander her character without evidence and are thus making no reference to possible drug use.
