It's almost mid-march. Are King Crab's in season yet?

Kirin is usually 20% pricier than other restaurants, but it is worth it.

You get exactly what you pay for and tastes delicious.

How many lbs? 3 or 4 ways?

Ch28 03-16-2014 09:42 PM

Not all king crab at festival is from Alaska's well-managed fishery - The Globe and Mail

Marshall Placid 03-16-2014 10:01 PM

Exactly! Though I didn't point out more of the issues with Russian-caught crab:

We got an 8 pounder, 3 ways.
The only thing was the deal is you have to order 2 other dishes which isn't bad. We had 4 adults +1 kid and we had way too much food..so I'd say it having another adult woyld have been perfect.

I really dislike small crabs, I think the difference between 8-10 is such a big difference, not that you get more food but the meat is by far juicier and succulent.

I always always opt for the biggest ones possible, got a 14 today and last year was able to get a blue king crab for 16lbs... fucking amazing.

Obsideon 04-08-2014 09:26 PM

Right now every restaurant has them for $29-$40 per pound ... damn so expensive :(

WhiteVitz 04-09-2014 02:34 PM

I saw Golden Swan has it for $20 per pound a few days ago during dim sum. Haven't tried it personally

Marshall Placid 04-09-2014 07:08 PM

Couldn't finish an entire 8 to 12 lb crab.... so...

I tried some pre-packed frozen king crab legs (from Save On).

It came out to about $18.50 per lb.

I cut the legs to open up the legs, steamed them, and served with hot butter.

It was very, very good, and surprisingly fresh.

Of course, you don't get the different types of sauces and the "fried" versions of the king crab at the restaurants.

But $18.50 per lb ($30 per bag)?

It is a good deal served hot at home.

PLUS I can finish the entire bag.

godwin 04-09-2014 10:19 PM

Make sure the legs are thorny or they are just spider crabs.
