do it yourself

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/330606867879?...84.m1497.l2649

$36, just need a windows PC. And you can keep it. You can check fault codes, reset airbag light, etc. It's basically the entire dealer diagnostic software package.

If you want to run headers, you can even flash your ECU to euro-spec with this

You'll never find a reputable shop to do this, since it's illegal under Transport Canada regulations, never mind the Motor Vehicle Act regs.

I guess Nixon isn't a reputable shop then,

Nixon Automotive | BMW Parts and Service Specialists in Burnaby, BC

$60 + tax

I would say not. Will they put limo tint on my windshield as well?

I'm sure any shop would put anything on your car if you said it was for offroad use only.

It's not the shops responibility to hold your hand and teach you right fron wrong. They provide a service, it should be upto the consumer to educate themselves.

Anyone that gets DRLs shut off KNOWS it's illegal and they don't care. More than likely he's (the OP) going to install angel eyes which will function as DRLs. There's no need to come in here and give your 2 cents unless its relevant or valuable to the OP, which it is not.

Let me break it down for you,

he wants to disable drls
you want to whine about legalities.

See how the two don't connect?

Sure they would... but how would NOT having DRLs be something "for offroad use only"? How would front tint be "for offroad use only"? Lots of "offroad" mods like big bright driving lights are legal to HAVE on your car on-road IF they're covered up or suitably defeated while on the road. You can't "cover up" missing required lights and a tinted windshield.

Picture the scenario: customer asks shop to put illegal front tint, not knowing it's illegal; shop complies, knowing it's illegal but caring more about the money than the customer; customer drives a block down the street and gets a box 1 VI, complete with towing and inspection charges; customer is now hooped when the shop could have warned him or even refused to do it.

As I said, a REPUTABLE shop won't do illegal mods to a customer's car; one that does is only after your money.

Not so - nobody knows until they're told. You've been told before. Many people haven't. Don't believe me? Just go into PF and look for threads from people who got tickets and VIs for mods that they didn't know were illegal. Shouldn't be hard, there's dozens of them.

Here, I'll help you out - here are some just from the first page of people asking about things that they don't know whether or not they're legal:
http://www.revscene.net/forums/68047...ed-mirror.html
http://www.revscene.net/forums/68014...oll-cages.html
http://www.revscene.net/forums/67992...ld-mounts.html

Oh... and here's a thread where someone didn't know his HIDs were illegal, and when he was told, decided to switch back to his proper lighting:
http://www.revscene.net/forums/68090...bling-drl.html

See? People DON'T "just know" these things.

That's possible. You don't know that, though.

Quote:

Of course it's relevant - it's information that may save him a ticket or VI. Nothing you've said is relevant.

Who's whining? I shared a piece of information, a warning as it were, that he may or may not have known. What he chooses to do with it is up to him. If he goes ahead and disables his DRL, does NOT install angel eyes, gets a VI for it, then comes into PF crying about it, then we can all laugh at him.

Nobody's whining here except you.

What's your problem? It's pretty obvious i installed angel eyes in my m3 and want my ugly yellow bulb turned off without the cost of my highbeams. I hate idiots who think they know everything. Get out of my thread since you're too dumb to contribute something helpful.

Yeah no problem.

I've been running no DRLs and umnitza 4300K angel eyes for 2 years. Been through countless roadblocks/checkpoints. Cops don't care, the angel eyes (depending on the brand) are brighter/more noticeable than the stock DRLs.

For headlight gasket check khoalty.com probably the best prices

i got nixon to do it for $40 bucks cash, they were really friendly and professional and did it within like 5 minutes. Yeah my angel eyes are alot brighter than my DRL by far so it wouldn't make sense for me to get a VI for it lol

Great now I feel ripped off haha .. their prices are pretty random for the DRLs

Yeah D/W about it, it's more or less a moot point as far as being legal goes. Hope you found the headlight gasket you needed

I was looking on random e46 forums and seen that people paid $20-60 there so I offered $40 and he said yes! I got lucky, and I'm good for the gaskets, I reused the same ones when I installed my angel eyes.

Mods you can close this thread

Ohhh soundy no need to get in a huff. In this instance its the shops responsibility to educate the client of any risks or pitfalls not the shops responsibility to refuse the business.
