as long as you live in dongguan, you'll never have to use your hands again. LOL!!!

Actually, internet in Mainland China is awful. Nothing over 5Mbit even in the biggest cities, every western site is blocked, terrible ping.

Back on topic...for those of you interested in BitTorrent, many seedbox providers accept Bitcoin, chief among them Bytesized and Feral. Do note that Feral does not offer month-to-month...minimum three months.

Ars got their hands on a BFL Jalapeno:

We?ve got a Butterfly Labs Bitcoin miner, and it?s pretty darn fast | Ars Technica

Quote:

Apparently, I'm a Bitcoin miner now, and it looks like I'm actually pretty good at it. Ars is currently in possession of one of the elusive but very real Butterfly Labs Bitcoin Miners. It's a tiny little black box that fits in the palm of my hand, and it contains a specialized ASIC adept at chewing through SHA-256 cryptographic functions—exactly the kind of calculations necessary to bring more Bitcoins into the world. Turns out, it's very good at what it does: it computes hashes at the rate of about 5.3 billion per second.

've got any number of computers around the house here to try the Butterfly Labs box out with, but I took the masochistic route and chose to try it out on OS X. This took quite a bit of back-and-forth with John O'Mara, creator of the popular MacMiner Bitcoin mining application. After several hours of troubleshooting, we eventually arrived at success. Here it is, happily churning away:
http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-conten...fl-console.png

According to my trusty Kill-A-Watt, the miner is drawing a pretty constant 50 watts at a similarly constant 0.73 amps. Its 120mm fan is whirring at what can only be described as "hair dryer" levels. According to MacMiner, the ASIC is generating a fair amount of heat, too—it's reporting a temperature of more than 80C.

I'll be spending some more time with the device in the coming days, getting familiar with all the vagaries of doing math for fun and profit, so stay tuned. According to my stats page, I've already earned 0.01410822 Bitcoins!

Pretty disappointing how loud and hot they ended up being

Bitcoin was not attacked by the US government Dwolla was. Dwolla is owned by Ben Milne. Anyone into car audio will know him as the founder of the now bankrupt ED Audio. Dwalla is a lower cost alternative to paypal.

Glad someone is helping to clear that up. They aren't "going after bitcoin" they are going after MtGox's US assets, since they made false claims on their business applications. To say that the US Govt is "clamping down" on Bitcoin is fucking horrible journalism, and I would recommend never using whoever wrote that as a source.

I'm telling you, MtGox is run by a bunch of goofballs, and they need to be replaced by several exchanges for BTC to progress from here.

ED audio eh? lol i've got one of their subs in my home theatre right now

I don't think this will bode well for bitcoin.

Yeah, news came out about 5 hours ago.

I don't closely follow this stuff as I neither buy nor sell drugs online, but it seems the guy running it left a nice little trail to find.

Worth 80 million, and lived with roomates in a rented apartment. Didn't even get to taste the reward.

SkinnyPupp 10-02-2013 04:26 PM

It's still over $100.. I haven't been keeping up the price daily. Last I checked a month or so ago, it was around $120

For BTC that is pretty much a normal fluctuation. People panic sell whenever news happens. This might be a good time to buy if you are into investing.

I don't mine it anymore, I am just holding onto it, and I use it to buy some stuff occasionally since I don't use credit cards anymore. I pay for things like domain names, usenet services, and online sports betting.

SkinnyPupp 11-02-2013 06:22 PM

Mining with 10 USB Block Erupters now... Picked them up for 0.60 BTC. I'll do GPU mining again when it gets cold, using it as a heater to justify the power cost :)

Man I wish I had 3300 MH/s when I first started mining :\
