Would I keep drinking it? Hell yeah. This is going to be my daily sipper without breaking the bank.
For the price tag of $30 it is DEFINITELY worth it and I can almost guarantee there will not be another whiskey under $80 that is this good.

However I fail to see how it can hold a candle to the likes of my beloved Balvenie 17/21 and Hibiki 21. They are in a league of their own. Although they are exponentially more expensive lol.

However, I don't think it lives up to the hype, I've had quite a few better whiskeys. But for $30 it is easily the best in its price range.

My thoughts exactly lol! Damn I'm already halfway through my bottle... it's too easy to crack it open when I know the bottle was only $30 compared to my other $200+ bottles.
I'm a poor man with a rich hobby lol so when you do the math, a skimpy 2oz pour of my Balvenie Port Wood cost roughly the same as half the bottle of this Northern Harvest :5shots:
I'm definitely gonna grab myself a couple more bottles next shipment!

Has anyone tried either the Nikka Coffey Grain or the Nikka Coffey Malt?

Good article sheds a bit of light on the process:

British whisky expert still convinced Crown Royal rye 'a masterpiece' - Manitoba - CBC News

Quote:

The first thing he looks for when tasting a whisky is what's wrong with it.

"If you find there's not that many negatives, or none at all, you then start looking at how that whisky is evolving through the temperature. I don't use water, I don't use ice, I use body temperature and watch the way it oxidizes and comes through," Murray said.

"It's patience and it's knowledge and that ability to listen to what it is saying."

After that, he marks it out of 25 in each of four categories: the nose (aroma), taste, finish and balance.

Murray said the Northern Harvest Rye's 97.5 ranking was put through the typical tests and stood up to snuff.

"It's equal to the highest score I've ever given to any whisky. It meant that I couldn't find any faults in it as such. The nose got 25 out of 25."

I am of a slightly different opinion than those who have tried Crown Royal Northern Harvest in this thread.

Prior to reading about Jim Murray's justification of his choice and criteria on his declaration of Northern Harvest, I do agree that aroma, taste, finish, and balance were all very consistent throughout. Me and two other friends tried it neat, with some water, and then with some ice and we all agreed it was great from start to finish.

Is it a daily sipper - no. I'm sorry but I do not believe that this is a daily sipper. I strongly believe this is an amazing product to be shared with close friends and family, regardless of price point. I would not, however, over pay for this from sellers on Craigslist. It will be available again - just be patient.

I am no authority on whiskey or scotch and I don't have years of experience tasting and mastering flavours, aromas, and distilling techniques, so I cannot say "This is the world's best whiskey." But I will say this - I firmly believe it does live up to the hype.

Give it a chance. You'd be surprised.

Ignore the Writer's Tears. :D

I'll check Peninsula Village next time I'm around there. If it will be anywhere, it will be at that BCL.

Where'd you buy yours? I haven't seen any that come with a box.

Nice crown molding

If you haven't been able to find Northern Harvest, don't leave the liquor store empty handed. Pick up a bottle of Alberta Premium if you haven't tried, it's consistently rated one of the best by Murray (95 pts vs 97.5 of NH):

Quote:

Another standout is Alberta Premium (95), which according to Murray is “one of the great, most wonderfully consistent whiskies of the world that is genuinely a Canadian rye and a must-have for those searching for the real thing.”

Within the next couple of days
Highgate village apparently will have it tomorrow, the only store in Burnaby (quoted by their staff)

punkwax 12-15-2015 07:56 PM

I was told they're on backorder when I called Ocean Park BCL today... but they also said you never know and to keep trying them and other stores.

so I called Highgate today about it, they told me that actually put it on the shelves yesterday (Tuesday) night... wtf! I could have gotten there to pick some up!

Alberni and Bute seems to be only one in Downtown core carrying it, releasing tomorrow morning.

Obsideon 12-16-2015 11:02 PM

After sipping on my Northern Harvest the last couple weeks I feel it's lost it's luster. I don't have the same feeling of "looking forward" to drink it compared to my other browns like the Hibiki Harmony and Balvenie Doublewood.

Perhaps it has to do with the cost? I like the Alberta Premium, it's super cheap, but for some reason I look forward to my Hibiki a lot more.

Either way, still waiting to try the Crown. Hope to catch it in a store soon.

I got two this morning in South Surrey. 125 bottles gone in about 5 minutes. Quite a few people who stood in line missed out.
