Mid section is gone but there are survivors. They know that because people getting out of the plane are posting pics on twitter.

The midsection is gone? The picture above shows the fuselage intact except for the tail.

Not a pilot but following this on multiple aviation forums.

Early speculation is either a hard landing with a tail-strike that tore off the back section.
Another possibility is an aborted landing with a go-around sequence that went awry.

Well no reports of fatalities, 2 send to hospital apparently. Good job Boeing on plane design & engineering with their flame resistance to allow all to escape.

Some people even had time to take out their carry ons!

Most likely this is the case.

The debris field starts before the start of the runway. Aircraft probably coming in too low, pilot realizes this and pulls up but tail strikes the ground.

If someone were in front of me in an emergency situation with a fire on a plane after a crash landing, and you go reach for your stupid carry-on potentially endangering all the people BEHIND you. You're gonna have a fist in your face

You can store carry-ons under the seat in front of you.

^ Doesn't matter. How many times have we heard in every single safety video to "leave all luggage behind" in an evacuation. Theres a reason for that. Those few seconds you take to grab your belongings could be the difference maker between life or death for another passenger behind you if not yourself.

That aside. Reporting two potentially fatalities on OZ214. Prayers to all that are affected by this.

With SFO completely closed to all traffic. All planes are diverting to nearby airports.

The ripple effect will be massive since SFO is such a busy airport.. So far one plane will be diverting to YVR. British Airways 287 from London LHR.

I don't consider that a personal attack. Don't be so sensitive, especially when it doesn't concern you. He stated "stupid carry-on", therefore we can deduct that's all he's had in his travels. Some people have a bit "smarter" carry-on

It'll be interesting to see what happen, there's a lot of factors that could have went into this plane crashing.
