Everyone has their own assessment of what constitutes something... a mirror being knocked off/clipped/scuffed does not = an accident in my books though. He should have written it a tiny bit better, but not worth complaining about everyone knows what he means.

"mint condition, just needs tires and brakes and a new front end and it will be like new." etc etc etc etc

If that bothers you then good luck every buying a used car. A lot of cars that had damage like that would be fixed privately and you'd never even know

I gave him a very reasonable offer and it was rejected. This guy wants literally full asking and has only come down like 500 bucks since March 2019.

Car isn't spectacular. Did not get good vibes from owner.

I can only imagine how many other people went to see and not buy the car in the past 5 months. Just some thought.

if you're worried about a mirror claim or replacing consumables then why are you on craiglist? just go to a dealer and pick out a new car

cheapest "semi-local" coupe I've seen in awhile

If you played your cards right, and were able to get this through duty free (it was built in the states - some canadians have pulled this off) than this could be in your driveway for 20k ish. If I wasn't into my 996 right now I'd go after it.

The underlined part of your post is not correct. The car is built in Germany as evidenced by the first character in the VIN being a W. Because of that, the duty is 6.1%.

They are extremely wise to this at the border - the duty on a car is not like sometimes being waved through without having to pay your taxes on stuff shipped to Point Roberts. There is a process to import a car and duty of 6.1% is automatically applied to all vehicles built outside of the NAFTA zone.

Mark - I'm not slagging your expertise. It's an extremely valuable resource.

I am saying for sure that at some point in the past, Canadian buyers have been able to bring these cars over the line with paperwork proving assembly was done in south carolina (where all Z3's are built) I've heard that it has gone both ways though, and maybe it's tougher now. I'll endeavor to locate evidence. I guess buyers could have lied about getting them through, but why do that?

EDIT: forum talk, but certainly supports your experience. Interesting stuff https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...s-US-to-Canada

"Some years of Z3s have German VINs (starts with a W) even though they were made in South Carolina. You want a car that with a VIN that starts with a 4 or with a ZM a 5. It use to be that the Canadian Border Service recognized the ones with Ws as USA made (ie. duty free) because one of the later letters in the VIN, the 11th or 12th or something was an L which designates the Spartanburg South Carolina plant. That all changed in October '07 at the same time BMW introduced all of the new fees, $380 for a letter of admissibility, $500 for a recall clearance letter, DRL inspection fee etc. If you get a W car you will pay 6% duty. It's possible that they have backed off on this W car policy change, but most likely not. It's wrong, I seriously doubt BMW paid any duty on these W Zs when they imported them as new years ago, it's all part of BMW trying to make importing more difficult and our federal government has gone along with it. As for the taxes, you pay GST at the border and PST when you register on all imports. The only physical change you have to make with the Zs is the new DRL module"

My buddy brought his in duty free.

every time I show up with a new car my shop neighbour gives me sht about not buying a C6. He can't get over why you would buy any other sports car in the 30k range. Have to admit - it's a ton of car for the money.

30k challenge: what's the best value late model sports car in this range (caveat: sports cars have 3 pedals)

twitchyzero 07-17-2019 09:07 PM

C8 will be revealed tomorrow
can't wait until these z06 hit sub-25k
which might not take that long if the mid-engine stingray is a hit

On paper, corvettes beats a lot of other sports cars. I shopped for a C6 zr1 not too long ago. The specs are great on paper for the price. Drove a couple of them, the power is intoxicating. But that was it. The car felt like it was too long, too wide, and too low. The shifter was clunky, interior was cheap, steering was slow, seats were like a couch. I'm sure the car is plenty fast on the track and extremely capable in the corners. In the end it just didn't feel like my interpretation of a sports car. Deal breaker for me for the zr1 was the electric doors, ceramic discs, after thought of a push start system, slow numb steering, flimsy feeling chassis.

I'm excited about the C8's unveiling tomorrow as well, but given GM's history and QC, you know the initial batch of cars are gonna be rather glitchy. That's exactly how I remember the C7's initial reliability records as well. FailFish

That may be true for the C5 and C6, but I'd say the C7 has really come a long way. They are big cars, no doubt, but the C7 drives well, and the interior is totally acceptable, enough though it still feels cheaper than it should, given its price tag.

Had the chance to drive a C7 Z06 on track, and O-M-F-G... It was absolutely insane in every sensory regard. The car drives well, steers well, and handles well, and I wasn't even attempting to drive at more than 40% (except when I got on the front straight where I made sure everything was pointing perfectly straight before mashing the gas pedal).

And then there was the power -- OHMYFXXKINGGOD!!! It was eye-wideningly and unnecessarily fast. After that drive, I knew right away that I wouldn't ever want anything more than 600hp.

Yellow has been the official colour of the Corvette team at Le Mans for decades.

Would be like complaining about a Jaguar in British Racing Green.

68style 07-18-2019 07:57 AM

Just because a team uses a colour doesn't mean that colour suddenly becomes classy. BRG would be classy regardless what its on.

Yellow is....... definitely a preferential taste.

Hondaracer 07-18-2019 08:12 AM

You don’t buy a corvette and expect a Porsche feel.
