Just buy this, better than your cross cab, get some royal lounge by.
I would pay slightly more than that Odyssey and just get a rb1, 200hp and you can get factory recaros or AWD.

			N52 mainly oil leak issues which aren't too serious. Big 3 are Valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan gasket.

			Didn't realize Z4s like this have that kind of attention. I know of a one-owner 6MT in gray with half the miles, accident-free, and dealer-serviced since new. Don't think the owner is selling yet, but seems inevitable given her age.

N52 is pretty stout. prepare for usual coolant system refresh. leaky valve cover is kind of a pain - the valvetronic system makes it kind of an asshole to DIY.
E89, man I've been tempted but i'm scared of the roof. I want to get one for my mom, but I have visions of a phone call w a stuck roof from somewhere on the road.
Good luck with it - i think they're very pretty cars. 3 pedal FTW

			How far of a PPI? All the way to compression numbers?
My current plan is
Book a time on Tuesday
- tell him to make sure engine/car is cold
- bring a big piece of cardboard, put it under the engine (hopefully Z4 have no undertray)
- idle for 15min while I chat up the owner
- check cardboard to see if anything is there
- go for a decent drive, like 20 to 30min
- park over the cardboard again
- check back in 30min
and go from there?
The black book (the ICBC agent pulled it for me at the dealer) value for the year and milage (checked using the VIN)
Clean = $14,432
Avg = $12,164
Rough = $10,567
Agent told me to show up with the $9K dec carfax, will most likely just need to pay taxes for the rough $10,567
I am also scared shitless, but I also loved the E89's looks, its just so nice.
I mean it is the cheapest E89 in the country according to AutoTrader

			Marwood Auto is the recommended shop for a PPI and other things according to the OG's in the local E46M group.

			only thing i can tell you for sure - if you're doing one, get your PPI done before you commit to going to the island. know what you're going to do before you go, and if needed - be prepared to walk away. 200 bucks and a nice lunch in victoria isn't a bad day out.

			IIRC the plastic panels underneath will catch any minor oil leaks so cardboard won't do much. If the gaskets are original, by now you can just expect them to be hard and brittle. Oil pan gasket requires dropping the subframe on my n52 and I would assume the same on the z4. For the valve cover and oil filter housing you should be able to see sweating and leaks by visual inspection.
Sharing other leaky areas on my e88 with the same motor: power steering Reservoir, oil filler cap.basically the whole thing is a sieve.
Get under the car and give the control arms a good strong wiggle and see how bad the bushings are. Check color of fluids from the top.

Thanks for the heads up on power steering reservoir, oil cap, and control arm bushings - adding those to my inspection list

			If the PS and oil cap leak you can start by replacing just the o ring in them. Usually that'll be good enough and you'll save the trouble of placing the whole thing.

While on track I should add.
I eventually replace the N55 2 years ago with a 2012 135i with only 40k KM on it and sure enough, all three of those were leaking.
If you are going to buy a BMW 10+ years, just assume they will need serious maintenance and learn to work on these cars yourself. My wife used to work at BMW service and the bills they give out are just ridiculous.
3 sites you need to repair a BMW yourself; realoem.com, fcpeuro.com and youtube.com.

			Not a killer deal but looks solid for a low km well maintained sorted E83 X3 xdrive30i dealer serviced and key leaks addressed. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/ZPm...ibextid=kL3p88

			sorry - not a good deal. no E83 is worth more than 5 grand as a beater. This is worth maybe 3 grand at wholesale. This seller probably went to trade it in and got smacked by the offer.
Absolutely garbage GM transmissions.
Easily find a F25 for the same money - way better vehicle

			^ true - it does show well, this is clearly a very nice, clean example. the vehicle does have some redeeming qualities.
as a former owner though - PTSD shudders
